I'm getting transferred from Hawaii to south Georgia around Jan-Feb. I'll be traveling straight thru, not stopping, 'cept for gas and groceries.

How can I transport legally thru TN? I don't possess any current permits.

Any advice is appreciated.

Take any ammo you have and put it in a different compartment than the gun (ammo up front gun in our trunk is a good idea) and make sure any magazines you have are empty of ammo. You should be good to go for TN if you do that.

No Unlicensed Car-Carry in Tennessee, so, in order to make your life easier, try to get a License that BOTH Tennessee and Georgia will honor.

God forbid, but if something were to happen you will not be able to get to your Firearm in time to overt the disaster.

Check into a Florida Non-Resident permit. Is honored in TN, GA(as long as you are not a GA or TN resident) and FL....And alot more.

There is physically no way for me to get any kind of permit before this trip.

Is there not a difference between "carrying" and "transporting" in Tenn?

FYI, I won't need a permit for Georgia (active-duty military), but I do plan on getting one for Florida.

Um....Ok.
Edit: There are several states that do everything by mail. With Florida, you just need some kind of documented training. Maine would be another option.

There is...
You cannot carry (wear on your person or have loaded in vehicle) in TN without a permit.
To transport in TN, the gun must be unloaded and out of reach and separate from the ammo. Also a loaded magazine (even one round) anywhere in the vehicle is considered a loaded weapon.
You may also carry (outside of vehicle) if the weapon is unloaded and the ammo is not within reach (again, no loaded magazine) and the weapon is in plain view.

I must have mis-read about Florida's permit. I know for Utah, for example, you need to take the "Utah" class. Thought Florida was the same way. Nothing is ever offered like that here in Hawaii.

Maybe my military training is sufficent for FL. I'll look into it again. Thanks

A copy of a hunter's safety certification will also suffice for the Florida permit. Thoughts are with all of you in Tennessee, hope the flooding subsides. I'll be visiting the state for the first time in July. Hope to have my Florida permit by then!
