• We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Any move entails a lot of technical details and I suspect we will encounter a few issues as the new server goes live. Please be patient with us. It will be worth it! :) Please help by posting all issues here.
  • The forum will be down for about an hour this weekend for maintenance. I apologize for the inconvenience.

The forum is now running on XenForo

I still do not see any way of getting it to "go to first Unread" post. And all the threads are taking me to the very FIRST message, every time I click on them.

Still not seeing it. Reverse chronological order is a vBulletin wonder, but many other message forum software used it, as well, even back in the old BBS days. Perhaps it's a option that could be switched to the "On" or "Enabled" position, allowing each user to select it if they so desire?

It is not available natively but I am looking to see if there is an addon available that would give us that functionality.

It might be useful to John if you post your browser version, and any options you have set for tracking or cookies.

Alas as JohnP posted, according to xenforo’s q&amis not a feature and reading the dialogue, it was a bit condescending towards the users...

M1: They are requesting a feature to go to the last post when posting or when clicking in a thread in the Threads List.
They really not liking the "show new posts" message.
There is any way to configure this?

M2: Heh users never like change...You can't configure this. However you can teach them that if they really want to go to the last post, they can click on the date of the last post in the right-hand column.

M1: Hard to please everybody.

Note in passing...thanks for trying to please ...

There was an addon in the previous version of XenForo that did this but sadly it has been abandoned. I am still searching.

I tried it in both Internet Exploder and in Chrome. Neither one showed the last post option, or took me there.

For future reference...to delete your seeing your conversations [NOTE: they are still maintained on the site's database]

Log in, and in your 'user area' in the top and right side of the screen, you will see USERNAME > MAILBOX > ALERTS > SEARCH

Click mailbox - you are now in what the program calls "CONVERSATIONS'

In your conversations listing you'll see a check box next to the 'participants'

Click that box on any conversations you wish to work with

Then, L > R across the bottom you will see a black line stating: conversations > select all > drop down box stating: "chose action..." > GO > and far right side an X.

then chose the drop down title "leave conversations..."

Let it 'blink' and you have now dropped those selected conversations out of your mailbox, but remember the site maintains them on their database!!

Cheers

Reverse chrono even back in the BBS days, was equivalent to top-posting. ;)

Top-posting is where the reply precedes the quoted original message. This post is bottom-posted, as per RFC 1855. It came out in 1995, but we users essentially hashed out most of these in the previous decade.

The term applies to a single post, not the chronological order of posts in the thread.

However, you may be saying that reverse chronological order is like top-posting. Perhaps. On most forums, it's almost always a user-selectable setting, as it is in vBulletin.

It does not appear to be a feature available on XenForo, despite many users asking for it since 2011. Apparently, the design brains behind XenForo didn't actually write the code, at least not the finished product, and didn't think (or want) to include it in the design specifications.

Sorry to say that I can find no rhyme or reason to this new format. I have not been able to find ANY of the threads that I used to read, and cannot seem to get any response to my questions. So, farewell, and Carry On. I shall not be returning to this site anymore.

Well seems some interesting gyrations can manifest themselves on the xen-pro platform for example,
This member has suddenly discerned from my ipad, i type in forum.etc there is an immediate delay in having the forum’s sign-in page appear. No problem a querk in connectivity...

Complete my sign-in credentials, immediate and significant delay, in several cases the page goes away and you must hit the reload symbol. Then the program takes me to a page stating i am already logged in click here...clicking it may or may not take me to the main forum’s page!

After several iterations of this dance i make it to the main page...click on a thread to read...delay as an orange bar races across the header and little orange hash tags bounce on the upper right corner...and i finally am taken to the thread i wanted to view.

So post a comment hit save same orange bar and hash tags and still didn’t save, again and maybe by the third attempt my psot is saved.

To send John a note took me six times to get the system to accept his name and 3 times to send it.

Interestingly, if i enter the ‘private’ browser side, type fourm.etc comes right to sign in page but program falters on sign-in as described above!

Safari’s data has been cleared numerous times, same results as described above. Tried logging into this site from a dozen different computers from areas around the country, same results.

Finally, endured the gauntlet and managed to logged in and another member told me I wasn’t showing up as being on the site!

Research into this phenomenon revealed someone has tinkered with my specific profile’s ‘timing’ parameters. Twas interesting to read who facilites this tinkering and why this phenomenon happens in this platform’s infrastructure.

Let’s see how many times it takes to save this post, one push, two push, three push

I'll take the system down for maintenance this weekend and refresh Xenforo and see if that helps.
