I received this email today.

Lori Haas
To Me

Dear XXXX,

Thank you for joining Virginians for Responsible Gun Laws (VRGL).

VRGL is a coalition of community groups; law enforcement, faith, and civic leaders; and everyday Virginians seeking common-sense gun legislation for Virginia. We believe that it is a moral imperative to reduce death and injury from gunfire and endorse comprehensive and effective policy measures to prevent future gun violence.

We are growing a grassroots movement to bring real change to our state and are excited to have your support. In the months ahead, we'll send you updates and alerts about our activities in Virginia.

If you have any questions or would like to get more involved, please feel free to email any of us:

Lori Haas, State Director
lori@vrgl.org

Andrew Patrick, Northern Virginia Organizer
andrew@vrgl.org

Ryan O'Toole, Central and Western Virginia Organizer
ryan@vrgl.org

Kayla Hicks, Hampton Roads and Eastern Shore Organizer
kayla@vrgl.org

Also, if you use Facebook and/or Twitter, please join us at these social media sites!

VRGL Facebook page: www.facebook.com/VARGL

VRGL Twitter feed: @VA4RespGunLaws

We look forward to working with you!

Lori, Andrew, Ryan and Kayla

Funny, but I don't remember signing up anywhere to join the wacko brigade.

And then, I get this one????

Kayla Hicks
To Me
Earlier you received an email from my colleague Lori Haas thanking you for joining the email list of Virginians for Responsible Gun Laws (VRGL). We apologize, that email was sent in error; we can confirm you have not been added to any lists.

Again, I apologize for the error. My name is Kayla Hicks, I'm a private investigator and licensed bail enforcement agent in Virginia. As a responsible gun owner myself, I'm very concerned about the easy access violent convicted felons, dangerously mentally ill individuals, convicted domestic abusers, stalkers and terrorist have to guns in my state.

That's why I started working with VRGL -- to help lobby for reasonable, responsible gun laws to help address these issues. I'm emailing to invite my fellow law enforcement professionals and responsible gun owners to join me in this effort, as I believe our voices are crucial in this conversation.

If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to email me at this address.

Sincerely,
Kayla Hicks

They've left themselves wide open with their lies. Resposible gun owers? Concerned about domestic violence? Crime? Dangerous felons? Their concerns and values sound just like ours.

I think the entire membership of OCDO and VCDL should join. Just take over.

I've decided to stop OCing. I will delete my account with OCDO, sell all my firearms, and join VRGL. I fully support what they are doing. I hope my fellow North Carolinians will follow and support me when I create my very own NCGL. Together we can change the world and stop this gun violence by getting rid of all firearms one household at a time.

Ms. Haas provided all the answers you need in her original e-mail when she used this phrase:

"We believe that it is a moral imperative..."

As with most other liberal causes, their supporters falsely believe they hold some moral high ground, and more often than not, this leads them to a sense of entitlement manifested in the common notion that "the ends justify the means."

No methods are off the table, no matter their legality, morality, common courtesy, respectability, or any of a number of other similar adjectives.

I would not be at all surprised if the "error" was entirely intentional, and after receiving what was probably some fairly heated feedback, someone - who was likely genuinely shocked that such a trivial matter as spam could possibly bother someone when such a great cause is at stake - stepped in for damage control.

"Nuts" is the correct assessment, but I don't think it's the PC term for it. ;)

I have absolutely no problem if Ms. Haas or any other individual or group choose not to avail themselves of ANY of their Constitutionally protected rights, BUT HOW DARE THEY TRY TO TAKE MINE AWAY, as I value these Rights that have been so expensively won!

I have started doing this

When someone sends me a UCE I have been returning the favor by sending them the VIrginia statute concerning spam. See below for an example

Code:
Please read the following and take my meaning from that

§ 18.2-152.3:1. Transmission of unsolicited commercial electronic mail (spam); penalty.
A. Any person who:
1. Uses a computer or computer network with the intent to falsify or forge electronic mail transmission information or other routing information in any manner in connection with the transmission of spam through or into the computer network of an electronic mail service provider or its subscribers; or
2. Knowingly sells, gives, or otherwise distributes or possesses with the intent to sell, give, or distribute software that (i) is primarily designed or produced for the purpose of facilitating or enabling the falsification of the transmission information or other routing information of spam; (ii) has only limited commercially significant purpose or use other than to facilitate or enable the falsification of the transmission information or other routing information of spam; or (iii) is marketed by that person acting alone or with another for use in facilitating or enabling the falsification of the transmission information or other routing information of spam is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
B. Any person who commits a violation of subdivision A 1 when (i) the volume of spam transmitted exceeded 10,000 attempted recipients in any 24-hour time period, 100,000 attempted recipients in any 30-day time period, or one million attempted recipients in any one-year time period or (ii) revenue generated from a specific transmission of spam exceeded $1,000 or the total revenue generated from all spam transmitted to any EMSP exceeded $50,000, is guilty of a Class 6 felony.
C. Any person who knowingly hires, employs, uses, or permits any minor to assist in the transmission of spam in violation of subsection B is guilty of a Class 6 felony.

Well intentioned but not likely to get their attention. Instead what I do with jerks like that is report them to their Internet service provider for spam. You can get that info out of the message header information, and through then using a good "whois" lookup tool to get their abuse address. If anyone who got one of those emails turned them in, they might well find themselves unplugged. THAT is beneficial in helping them to gain a full appreciation for the consequences of on their own not taking the time to become familiar with the law (or believing that they have that moral right to do it).

I received the exact same emails both with the same exact time stamps. Well the second "correction" email was sent 2 minutes before the time stamp on yours.

I wonder where they got my Name and email address from.

Where did they get my email and who else did they give it to?????

They are tracking you and mixed up their databases - I don't really know this, but it may be something that could happen. Maybe, just maybe, they have a list of emails that they auto-delete posting for on any of their websites/social media because that person doesn't agree with their thoughts.

I'm not really just paranoid...

I'd just reply...

I'm totally for common sense gun control. Its common sense that more potential victims armed and able to defend themselves lowers violent crime, and makes less victims. I am ready to join you in lobbying for reduced gun control... its only common sense!

Thanks for wanting reduced gun control, I'll be sure to tell all the pro and anti gun groups I know that is what you all want!
