I sure hope everyone is alright. I went up to my dad's mom's house to rescue a calf before the storm hit. By the time I got there (7 min drive) it was hailing bad. So I took shelter at her house (pic to follow). My sisters truck has both mirrors and the bug deflector busted, my dads truck has a mirror busted and other vehicles have hail damage. I was sure that we wouldn't have any windows left but I don't think we had any windows busted. I am sure we'll find more damage in the morning. My uncle's house has both the sunroofs busted and my aunt's has a screen door shredded.

From Paintsville Area

The damage in this area was surgical it seems! Houses have been decimated and a few feet away, another has not been touched. Massive power outages here. Houses have been completely flattened. There has been a massive rescue/emergency operation underway at the mouth of Middle Creek and US 23, there's an unverified report that a trailer had rolled off a hill with 3 small chidren inside.

Paintsville Wal Mart has been turning people away (closed) due to their skylights being destroyed, according to the people at the door.

The storm's are reportedly over but we're still having very heavy winds at the moment.

Cell sites are inoperable in the Paintsville area. Salyersville's "Restaurant Row" is 90% destroyed according to reports.

WSIP is currently off the air, WKLW is still on the air thanks to an emergency generator. They're utilizing their Facebook page for reporting purposes as well as photo posts:
www.facebook.com/wklwfm

A massive amount of houses in the Denver, Collista, Rockhouse are have been reportedly decimated. There are numerous reports of fatalies but I can not verify anything.

Reported Knott County has been asking people to stay away from the hospital there unless they are truly injured, supposedly they're overloaded. Once again, this is yet unverified at this time.

This has proven to be a good test run for my disaster preparation, it has shown me some area's in much I'm sadly lacking though.

Powers off at my place, I'm operating from a war driven connection in Paintsville at the moment.

I have yet to hear anything from my girlfriend all day and this evening, just praying that she is alive and well in the wake of this strom!

I can only pray that the reports of fatalities are in error and no lives are lost.

My dad works for GOT and was called out around 9:30 lastnight. Last time I spoke with him he was headed to salyersville, and he said they had hail the size of apples and that everything had damage. He said DOC was in airlifting people out and that cell service was cut for emergency services
only. with wal-Mart turning people away, and since they've knocked all the little guys out of business, what's people gonna do? Hopefully this can be a learning experience. BE PREPARED! If this was a major catastrophe and walmart was saying go away, people would starve!

I realized I'm not as prepared as I thought to leave in a hurry. I live in a trailer that was manufactured in 2000, so even though it's sturdy, it wouldn't survive a tornado. I was listening to NOAA on my scanner and when it stopped talking and started beeping frantically and flashing tornado warning, I figured it was time to go. I had to open my safe, put a mag in my AR, round up 2 more mags, grab a couple boxes of ammo, my surefire flashlight and extra 123 batteries. I had my sidearm and BUG on me along with two reloads thankfully. I fumbled the combo several times because I started panicking when my scanner went crazy.! I keep a case of water in my truck with a couple energy bars, so would've been alright for a few days on that. If my kids would've been here and not at grandmaws, it would've complicated things more, so I'm revising my whole emergency plans so everything is together that I'd need, and where I can get out quick!!

Thankfully I had no damage, a bunch of trees down and limbs everywhere, nothing damaged though!! I pray for everyone that was not so fortunate, and if anyone needs help or knows if any volunteers are helping anywhere please let me know.....

I did pretty well for my first test bug out. *LOL* I was prepped and completely out the door in about 15 minutes, this is from just being in sweats and t-shirt to being locked, loaded and ready to rock. As a former ARES member and rescue squad member, being prepped for the New Madrid plan or other emergencies has taught me well but I see from this emergency that I have grown lax and apathetic in my years but not too bad. The only area that I would've failed in was having batteries for the receivers and having the radios prepped and ready to go. I rarely ever use the radios that much anymore as I have moved on into other areas but I can see now that I need to revisit that area and be prepped for the next time SHTF. Luckily for me, my house and property was spared from the tornado.

As I posted early this morning, after a busy night lastr night:

I made it through the night but my concerns and prayers go out to all those that are without shelter this morning as the sun rises on what looks to be an otherwise beautiful day. There's been a great many reports of tornado damage unlike anything that we've ever seen in this area! Not sure if the emergency operations are still on-going on the US 23 corridor this morning but from the looks last n...ight, I'd venture to say they are. The are called Hage Hill around the US 23 corridor was hit head-on it looked like earlier last night. There are a great many buildings and homes that have been reported flattened last night and as I mentioned last night, according to reports, around 90% of "Restaurant Row" has been destroyed on 114 in Salyersville just before you hit Mt. Parkway. The city of Salyersville though was reported to not have been touched by the tornado.

I am thankful that I was spared but my prayers go out to all those that are without shelter and possibly clothing or those that might have lost someone, I'm quite certain that there will be fatalities when the countings done. There was ALOT of destruction in my area last night and there's still alot of emergency service workers hard at it tonight as well. May God lead and guide them to those that can be rescued and saved.

P.S. I noticed today as I was travelling to and from the Ashalnd gun show that the tornado had struck about 8 miles outside of Louisa, taking down and old barn and nearly taking down an old abandoned house that used to belong to a doctor many years ago. In behind that old house and the old barn, you could see the power of the winds from last night as they had broken huge trees in half along what I think is a river bank. There were far too many sight seer's out today and too many of them were driving wrecklessly as well. I even had one lady in a small car come to a dead stop right in the middle of US 23, in front of me, just so she could take a photo! Some people are getting stupid out there!
