The Sandy Hook Commission just came out with their interim report and suggestions for changing CT law. Get it here.

Highlights include:

1. Mandatory background checks on the sale or transfer of any firearm.
2. Requiring registration for any firearm.
3. Requiring the renewal of firearms permits on a regular basis with in-person competency tests.
4. Ban the sale, possession, or use of any magazine or ammunition feeding
device
in excess of 10 rounds except for military and police use.
5. Ban on the possession or sale of all armor-piercing and incendiary bullets, regardless of caliber.
6. Ban purchase of ammunition unless it is suitable for a registered firearm.
7. Study how best to ban the sale and purchase of ammunition via the internet.
8. Study the effectiveness of federal law limiting the purchase of firearms via the internet to those who have passed the appropriate background screening.
9. Limiting the amount of ammunition that may be purchased at any given time.

-- and the big one --
10. Ban the possession, sale or transfer of any firearm capable of firing more than 10 rounds without reloading.

My take on the underlined portions of #4: They know that it is unconstitutional to take magazines from people so their "compromise" position will be to remove "possession" but keep in "use" so people will not be able to use their property. I would also expect to see the final bill to include an exception for .22 tube magazines -- but who knows if they will even think about that.

I think that the legislature will vote on every one of these proposals except #10 (which is off the rails even for our lib legislature) and the changed noted to #4. And I bet it will pass along with a new AWB that restrict 1 evil feature.

Well its nice to see people declare themselves as traitors.

At least they addressed actual security issues at school. Otherwise, the firearms provisions are rubbish and they know it.

already emailed Jason Perillo. Told him to pass along the word that anyone that votes for gun control laws should be looking for a new job. One of the most disgusting things about this report is that after all of the calls for Mental health issues to be addressed they weren't able to recommend a single mental health change.... Why even bother.. your just giving the Governor what he wants. Why not just save the trouble and put the bills out there, they obviously didn't listen to ANYTHING we said.

Jason Perillo's response to my email

Hi Shawn,

The Bipartisan group did not issue a final recommendation. However, the Governor's task Force did... which is what you have seen.

Regardless of that, my sense is that this is going in a direction you won’t like. It appears that bans are definitely on the horizon.

Now is the time for you and like-minded folks to be reaching out to legislators from all over CT.

At least you got a response. I've sent Stephen Dargan and Gayle Slossberg at lease 3 emails each begging for a response or some type of dialogue and I have yet to hear from either.

I go one FOIA request response and he stated that he had no intention of responding to ANY emails ... I think I posted about this earlier ... some are real gems ....

And how would any of those ten suggestions, if implemented, have prevented Sandy Hook? I have one suggestion, and it will clearly decrease the chance of a future Sandy Hook and decrease the death toll among the children if another Sandy Hook happens.

1. Repeal all laws preventing lawfully armed citizens from carrying in a school.

It would have prevented only 20 kids from dying as the guy would have used a shotgun with buckshot and kept on killing ... he was killed by his own bullet & it was not a suicide but a ricochet.
