Anyone heard of these guys? Their CPX-1 seems like a good alternative to the Kel-tec P-11. I'm not really in the market for a new gun but I was thinking that as soon as I saved up $350, this might be a good way to spend it. It's either this or a Glock. I'll probably go with the Glock but that's a lot more expensive. Basically I was just wondering which would be more reliable, a $250 gun or a $350 gun?

I have personally only had a conversation with 1 person that actualy owned a Skyy. That person's experience was very bad. Most of the time you get what you pay for.

What I'm looking for is a last resort gun. Something to keep at the opposite end of the house. Either way, I've heard a lot of bad things about the P-11 and was generally just posting this to get any opinions that any of you might have. The good thing about the Skyy is that it's got a lifetime warrenty. I don't know if Kel-Tec has the same thing or not but I do know that Skyy has one.

What kind of used or new guns would you suggest with a $300-$350 price tag? I want something that is at least a 9mm or .38 special. I want decent to high reliability and good sights. Size is not really a factoras long as it doesn't have more than a 4" barrel.I was just reading the review on Skyy's website and they say not to shoot +p powered ammo out of it which has all but scared me off.

Look into a Bersa. I don't know about the larger caibers but the .380 has built a reputation of being a reliable gun at an inexpensive price about $225-250. Ruger P series...

At least going by the spec's of the CPX-1, it has a heavier trigger thanthe Baby Glock's

Here are the reasons to save your pennies for a used baby-glock instead of a CPX-1

1) Glock = ugly & rugged
2) Everyone makes a holster for it
3) Many aftermarket goodies
4) They are cheap on the used market

The only downside is that the Baby Glocks are slightly larger than the CPX-1.. My Baby Glock is my concealed carry gun(work & everywhere but the courthouse, the airport and the shower)...

You need to look around some more because I see new P-11s for $209. I don't know about the Skyy except that they are ripping off KT. I do know that I would go with KT's lifetime warrantys in case anything goes wrong with the piece. For the low $300s I would look for Rugers or CZ-75s, better ergonomics on the CZs. The CZ RAMI is also a great sub compact pistol.

Well, given that your intended use is
a last resort gun. Something to keep at the opposite end of the house
I'd say that a used revolver in .38/.357Mag/.44spl would be a far better choice. Simple, reliable, easy to use, and the light weight/small size of the KelTec and its near competitors is neither necessary nor useful.

I just got rid of my junk skyy these guns look better than the keltec p11's but dont be fooled the keltec is a much better gunI know I returned my new skyy cpx1 for a new P11.The Skyy would fire the first round then jam this happened with any ammo I tried. The slide would not stay locked back after last round most the time either. I cant remember how many times it FTE and FTF. The P11 has fired 400 rounds with out a hickup.Dont trust your life with a skyy product.

Ruger P95DC in 9mm. on sale brand new, $299 at some Gander Mountain stores (gandermtn.com). i personally carry one. 15+1 capacity where states allow high capacity magazines and its got a decocker on the slide. 3.9 inch barrel.

i'd also reccomend the Smith& WessonSW9VE. its 9mm, also has a polymer frame. a bit slimmer than the Ruger, no decock, but it does have a loaded chamber indicator on the top of the slide. 16+1 capacity where states allow. the barrel has to be 4inches or less. lifetime warranty.

both these guns are full size guns with real sights. i've shot both extensively and can say that both are quite reliable, performing without malfunctions on the range.

on another note, i've never heard of Skyy. i thought Skyy was vodka or something. it looks like its got real sights, which the P11 does not (if my memory serves me correctly). the P11 will take other magazines, the S&W model 5906 15 round clips without modification. i don't think high capacity is an option with the Skyy pistol.

The P11 does have real sights adjustable rear anyway the skyy I had did too. I cant tell how good the skyy sights were for the fact I spent most the time just trying to get it to fire when I pulled the trigger.
