Site trying to download files to my computer

Every time I load a new page here, I get a beep and a message that Internet Explorer has blocked this site from downloading files to my computer.

Any idea what opencarry.org is trying to download to my computer?

(Internet Explorer 8, BTW)

It is not opencarry.org, it is in fact a virus that is already there, I have been dealing with the same thing and I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. If you go to certain sites it will continue to do that. If I get a solution I will let you know.

Here is what I do to identify processes that are running on my PC's.

Download and run Process Explorer.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653

It allows you to see every process that is running and the company name the owns it. You should recognize most of them like Microsoft, Intel, ATI, your video and audio drivers, etc. For the ones you don't recognize, you can right click them and do an online search. That should give you some insight into how to eliminate the malware.

Best way I've found to clean your system is to follow this: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

If you follow all the directions properly, you'll have a nice squeaky clean system. I was having hardcore problems on my old computer once, several viruses and malware, and this cleared everything right up. It also helps to speed up your computer usually, getting rid of the crazy amount of temporary files, among other things, that are stored but never used.

Also during the steps, you will get a small program that will allow you to use a restore point without even being in windows (on your boot up). Very handy if your system gets screwed up and you can't even get into windows.

My number one tool against malware is NoScript (an add-on to FireFox). It allows an amazing level of control over which scripts run and which don't. Since starting to use it a few years back, zero malware has made it through. My anti-virus software is getting bored.

This. Make sure you have all Microsofts security updates as well. They also have a malware removal tool.

Please, more info about this tool for FireFox. I use FF nearly always and am interested in this add-on. Once on my machine, do I need to do anything more or is it good to go right off?

It immediately starts blocking all scripts--which means some sites stop working. You click on the "S" logo in the lower-right corner, and options pop up to permit you to "allow" or "temporarily allow" a site to run scripts. Over time you will have a core of sites allowed to run scripts that you trust. You can also designate sites as "untrusted." NoScript stops even offering you the option of allowing a site you have designated as "untrusted." For example, I have googlesyndication.com as untrusted. That kills a lot of ads.

I recommend this free and easy to use program for removing spy-ware, Trojans, and other dreadful things from your computer.

"Spybot Search&Destroy" available here.
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/spybotsd/index.html

You may want to disable the "real time scanning" feature because it can slowdown some computers.

I have this program and run it at least once a week.

Spybot is good, but it is not great. I have been using pybit for years and years, updated weekly or more, and many things have slipped right by it.

My current anti-malware program of choice is "Microsoft Security Essentials" it is fast, thorough, and free. It has not failed me yet! So I suggest everyone with a valid copy of windows download it and set it to run in the background, it does updates automatically too.
if you have a pirate copy of windows, I suggest you avoid it for obvious reasons

MS Security Essentials along with the Windows default Firewall along with some web common sense have stopped everything I have run across.

On that Trojan that pops up as a fake "Virus Warning" and offers to install stuff...
ALT-F4 out of EVERYTHING without ever using the mouse or hitting the ENTER key! That is the bet way to keep that sucker from biting you!
After ya do that, reboot and hit F8 until you get the prompt so you can enter Safe Mode without Network support.
Run your virus scanner and also run %windir%\system32\msconfig.exe and see what is being loaded on startup and kill off anything that is suspicious or unneeded.
You should now be able to reboot normally and be OK.

Best advice yet!

Maybe it is time to check out "Security Essentials" again. It use to be a pretty crappy program, but I have heard a few good things about it lately.

MSE was never crappy. It's always gotten rave reviews. You sure you're not confusing it with defender?
