kparker, While I understand the humor, this action (probably by some gang garbage) has no doubt put an end to our efforts to promote OC with the city. We are not going to quit, but the only thing I see from here is more harassment from the cops.

Fetch, I am sorry for you as you are probably right. Maybe you can use it to your favor and point out that there is already a law against what was done and it didn't achieve it's purpose just like gun restrictions don't achiever their purposes either.

Where's the humor? I'm with adamsesq here--why should some idiot's misbehavior (of course criminal, and at least highly probable carried out by someone w/o the legal ability to possess a firearm in the first place) have the slightest bearing on the legal carry of firearms by the law-abiding?

I don't think it will have any long term affect. Someone (gangsters most likely) shot at the Sunnyside City Hall a few months ago. It made the paper that one day (six sentences,) and really wasn't spoken of again.

As for the security measures, that's like putting metal detectors at Columbine High School- useless, but it's something they can tell the press.

Since (from what I know) the efforts in Spokane are of a legal nature, and not subject to media ploys, this shouldn't do anything at all, unless they manage to get the RCW changed.
If it comes down to it, just OC in the park with a copy of the law in your pocket, and call the PD just to make sure they know you're there.

Well that response certainly makes sense. Somebody does a drive by shooting on your street so you won't let people come over for dinner from then on without signing in a guest book. Well that will certainly stop that from happening again. :quirky

I don't make people sign in, but I do take their picture. I have surveillance camera's uploading video to internet servers 24 hours a day. ;)

It sounds like he used this as an excuse to cut a few corner's on enacting his new security policy.

I agree with fetch. The bulletin we are trying to work with them on was written in that building. I do not think this is good considering what we are trying to accomplish.

'[...] The shots were fired into a second-story window where engineering services, city projects and public works administration employees are housed. No one was working there over the weekend, officials said. [...]

“It appears the gun was fired from the sidewalk into the windows,” Spokane Police Detective Brian Hammond said. [...]

“There’s no indication that anyone was being targeted,” Hammond added. [...]'
Sure, this is bad press for firearm owners in general, but the only way to counteract it is to make open-carry by law-abiding citizens more common and more visible to all of Spokane.

It could be a disgruntled Spokane Public Works & Utilities employee. It could also be some Spokane citizen who is very annoyed with the Spokane Public Works & Utilities office. (Maybe someone was mad that they didn't get proper snow removal in their neighborhood soon enough?)

It could be a completely random gang-related shooting. (I don't seea gangspecificallytargetting a second-floor window. I'd think the gangs would target the court house itself, not the city hall. If a gang was after the city hall, I would think they'd be aiming for the front doors, not some second floor office.)

There's also the possibility that it's some completely random criminal act with no motive whatsoever. (I find this rather unlikely, but it could happen.)
