There was an "accidental" shooting at the Rancho Cucamonga Bass Pro Shop. It will be very interesting to see if they change their policy on legally open carrying in their store. To date BPS have been very supportive of open carry, it would be a shame if one individual who is illegally transporting his pistol ruins it for the rest of us.

Stuff like this only feeds the fireof support for Saldana's AB1934 and all the other similar bills. But Saldana and those like her need accidents and crimeto get any support for their anti-gun bills (albeit lessand less lately. See the .50 cal. situation). Ironic, isn't it. You don't see similar bills to outlaw driving and cars when someone gets hit by one. You don't see similar bills to outlaw pools, tubs, buckets, and other containers when a child drowns in one. Imagine the headlines: "Legislation had been introduced to impose a five day waiting period onbuckets, and to limit the purchase ofbuckets to one a month."

At least once a year I read a story about a family dying because they leave a space heater running, or unbelievabely build a fire in the middle ofthe livingroom, and suffocate on the smoke. YetI can walk into a home improvement store and walk out that same daywith all the space heatersI can pay for.

Ibetter stop. The liberalsare getting ideas, andwe have heard and madethese arguments a thousand times before.

"The 52-year-old man, whose name wasn't released, was checking in the weapons at the front desk when he noticed one of the guns had the hammer cocked. He reached for the .45-caliber weapon and it fired. "

Police are later quoted as calling this an "accident". I agree it is an accident in the sense that it was unintended, but talk about stupid. Why was the gun loaded, why was the hammer cocked and why was the safety off. Also how did the gun fire all by itself when he reached for it. He must have put his finger on the trigger?

This guy is a complete idiot and I hope Bass Pro doesn't let him back in the store. Such complete disregard for gun safety hurts us all.

If it was a .45 cal. pistol as indicated by the article it was probably a 1911 model and I know that you can safely CARRY cocked and locked (condition 1). However, the gun was in a bag or container so it wasn't being carried (and if it was being carried, loaded the guy had better have had a CCW). When you are transporting firearms rounds shouldn't be chambered, magazines shouldn't be loaded and placed in the firearm, the hammer or firing pin shouldn't be "cocked" and if you are going to break all those rules, you should at least have thesafety on.

Two words: Clearing. Barrel.

It baffles my why it's so hard to set up a metal drum with 50 lbs. of sand in it. The military has them outside every freakin' door in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I have one at my house.

This is just plain stupid.

As a responsible person which decides to have a weapon, it is never acceptable for this kind of behaviour.

And if it were a 1911.....the handle saftey should have stopped this.

He was just an idiot

Now I am worried that my 1911 won't do it's job! The bullet went 40 feet and bounced off her butt. Wow she must work out or my 45 is weak. This was not a guy who was UOCing just someone who broke more than one of the 4 golden rules.
1 treat every gun as if it is loaded ALL of the time.
2 keep your finger OFF the triger untill you are READY to shoot.
3 only point a gun at somthing you are willing to KILL or DESTROY.
4 KNOW your target and what's beyound it.

IMO he broke all 4 rules. Do you guys have any other RULES to add.

Customers who bring weapons to the store are required to check them in at the front desk, where an employee places the firearm in a metal box to make sure it's not loaded. They put a gun lock on the gun before a customer is allowed to bring it to the range, or to carry around the store to shop for gun accessories.

Once the gun is brought to the range, an employee removes the weapon from the box and takes off the gun lock.

Thats the California complicated method of gun handling where several store persons handle a shooter's forearm prior to entering the range.

Here's the Tucson Arizona method: Large signs posted everywhere:"NO customer handling of uncased/unholstered firearms or ammo in store area" "No exceptions".

We come in to shoot and all guns remain in the case or bag until shooter enters the firing range. This way we have No UD or AD accidents inside store.

Maybe, otta' try it out way.;)

There will always be morons who neglect to cycle the actions of their weapons after magazines are removed, thus leaving a live round chambered and ready to fire. There are even bigger morons who cycle their actions before the magazine is removed. Any time a firearm is handled unnecessarily, whether it be to unload it before transport, or in this case to install a trigger lock so it can be walked 200 feet through the store, things like this will happen.

Every time I walk in or out of my house with my firearms and either load or unload them, I have a tinge of fear in the back of my throat that I may make a mistake and have an accidental discharge. If I could simply keep my pistol loaded at all times, secured in my fully-enclosed retention holster, there would be no reason whatsoever to handle it, thus removing a great deal of potential for a tragic accident.

Like Forest Gump said, "I was shot in the buttocks and I was told it was a million dollar wound, but I never saw any of that money," facial grin towards the camera. Mmmmmmm. Looks like proper gun handling protocol was not in place by the store, and so, it will pay the consequences financially for their oversight. Or, the lady with the wounded buttocks gets a free 1000 rounds of fake gunshooting at their indoor carny gun show with lasers. Sounds fair to me.
