I have had my serpa/cqc for a couple of years now and absolutly love it. But It is wearing the finish off the slide of my Glock and other black finish pistols. Anyone else have this problem? If so, what have you done about it?

You are not alone!

I got my cqc serpa in June and already it has worn the finish off of my Kimber Ultra Raptor. Especially on the trigger guard where the retention locks on. I just switched out my Raptor for my Stainless Ultra Carry. I am not sure what to do either. Should I send it back to the custom shop, try to find a local gun smith or see if I have the patience with one of these DIY kits! I am fairly disappointed in the way my my Raptor has held up. Not really up to Kimber standards or mine.

The other thing I have noticed with my cqc serpa is that the gun rocks back and forth in the holster. Have you noticed that with yours? I lined the inside of the holster with suede to help with the fit and wear and tear.

My Glock and Sig fit nicely with no rocking. It seems to affect several makes of firearms from what I gather. It is a shame because I really like the look and retention the holster has. I had considered felt or moleskin but wanted tosee if anyone had tried it. I think I will give it a try.

Any holster that I've ever known about will wear the finish. It is a concern if it wears rapidly or harshly.

An every day carry weapon is going to wear. I adjusted to that fact, though I don't like it. A carry weapon is a tool.

I have a 5 month old Para Ordinance SSP in black that the Serpa has made look 5 years older. I switched to a Glaco leather with a thumb break.

Holster wear = character squared !

Hard holsters are not for BBQ guns, they are working hosters and there are benefits: less draw friction, don't hold moisture, better retention options, hold their shape better, more durable exterior and less expensive to name a few.

Even a hard chrome handgun will show holster wear if presented often enough.

Many of the "black" finishes are very soft and thin. Some are virtually paint. I particularly do not like Kimber's standard finish - I've never owned a Kim-Pro fininshed version so I cannot speak to that.

My handguns all show some wear and use - like myself. :)

LMAO.....thas' right....what, are these girls wearin' jewelry? :celebrate

Just kiddin' guys...my matte stainless slide on my carry weapon has a couple of shiny spots from my Fobus but, like Grapeshot said, if it's presented enough...it's gonna show wear.

I have yet to have a problem with finish wear on my SW99 while using my safariland holster. It is lined with suede from the factory, and I'm sure that is the primary reason. Someone I know attempted to line their fobus with moleskin type material, but it wore thin and peeled rather quickly. I don't know what safariland uses exactly, but it works incredibly well.

My Fobus wears on the black finish of my Baby Eagle, particularly in the muzzle area. I'm not concerned. I didn't buy it because it's pretty. I bought it because it does the job and I got it cheap.

there has been a lot of talk over at XDtalk regarding moleskin insde the Serpas. From what has been said it works very well and keeps the gun from rocking around so much. I am going to try it here pretty soon.
