Vermont Gun Plan

WHAT A GREAT IDEA !!!!!!!!!!!

Sensible Gun Registration Plan That Will Work

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack has read the Second Amendment to the U.S.

Constitution, as well as Vermont 's own Constitution very carefully, and his

strict interpretation of these documents is popping some eyeballs in New

England and elsewhere.

Maslack recently proposed a bill to register "non-gun-owners" and require

them to pay a $500 fee to the state. Thus Vermont would become the first

state to require a permit for the luxury of going about unarmed and assess a

fee of $500 for the privilege of not owning a gun.

Maslack read the "militia" phrase of the Second Amendment as not only

affirming the right of the individual citizen to bear arms, but as a clear

mandate to do so. He believes that universal gun ownership was advocated by

the Framers of the Constitution as an antidote to a "monopoly of force" by

the government as well as criminals. Vermont 's constitution states

explicitly that "the people have a right to bear arms for the defense of

themselves and the State" and those persons who are "conscientiously

scrupulous of bearing arms" shall be required to "pay such equivalent."

Clearly, says Maslack, Vermonters have a constitutional obligation to arm

themselves, so that they are capable of responding to "any situation that

may arise."

Under the bill, adults who choose not to own a firearm would be required to

register their name, address, Social Security Number, and driver's license

number with the state. "There is a legitimate government interest in knowing

who is not prepared to defend the state should they be asked to do so,"

Maslack says Vermont already boasts a high rate of gun ownership along with

the least restrictive laws of any state .. it's currently the only state

that allows a citizen to carry a concealed firearm without a permit. This

combination of plenty of guns and few laws regulating them has resulted in a

crime rate that is the third lowest in the nation.

"America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system,

but too early to shoot the bastards."

This makes sense! There is no reason why gun owners should have to pay taxes

to support police protection for people not wanting to own guns. Let them

contribute their fair share and pay their own way.

OUT-EFFIN'-STANDING!!! I can't think of a BETTER thing to do! This would make all the anti-gunners put their money where their mouth is! (the pro-gun people do that when they purchase a firearm) This would level the playing field, and give the anti's something new to b1tch about.

Why not? Here in Virginia we have an uninsured motorist fee.

Owning a firearm (and knowing how to use it; being willing to use it) is part and parcel to liberty.

If you do not want to take part in defending liberty, you should pay an additional fee to make up for it.

And those of us who do own firearms should get a massive tax break. What say? :D

This is not true! Alaska doesn't require a person to have a CC permit to go concealed. Gotta love politicians who talk about Laws and are wrong.:banghead::banghead:

Don't get me wrong. I support where he's going. I just think he should know what he's talking about first with all the facts.

It's not a unique idea. Our own Skidmark came up with a similar plan for me a couple of weeks ago.

In order to settle differences at some future date, I have to keep a list of people I hate. It's gotten so large I have to keep it on an external hard drive in a database. When I meet someone, I have to key their information in to see if they're on the "Whup yur Azz" list.

I was adding one of the Norfolk irratants the other day, and Skidmark said, "It'd be easier to keep a list of people you don't hate".

That's an idea. I started the new database and I have it on SD Ram with 99% free space. Who says there are no good ideas anymore.

First things first why is this on the Virginia forum? I mean why not but its about Vermont, and this post was started by a Michigan member, so why not Michigan or Vermont.

Also you can CC in Alaska without a permission and paying a tax on your right...

God Bless!

You guys realize this would have the exact same effect as registering all gun owners...

I think a much better idea is to exempt anyone who is carrying a gun at the time from sales tax.

Think 'they' don't already have a good idea? Just being on the forums, how you vote, there are alot of little hints 'they' can use to build the info 'they' want.

Just because I'm paranoid, that doesn't mean they're NOT out to get me...

(Oh, BTW, someone can be a part of 'We' as well as 'They'. 'They' are not all bad/evil/corrupt. Thats why 'We' need to be part of 'they'; to help keep 'them' honest'.)

Sorry, but this is tyranny.

As much as no one should be forced to be disarmed of any knive or firearm, no one should be forced to carry one.

Why can't people just learn to leave other people alone.

This bill is equally as tyrannical as the U.K. gun laws.

Its closer to Switzerland than the UK. I think people should be issued a gun.

I also people should be held liable for doing nothing. For instance, If a child is taken out of a home, and the parents did nothing to stop it, then the parents should be held criminally responsible for negligence.

If you can do something and choose not to, then you are guilty as well as the perp.

Vermont State Rep. Fred Maslack is no longer a Vermont State Rep..... But it still is a great idea! The new Rep. from Mr. Maslack's home town of Poultney is Andy Donaghy (R)... maybe he willpick up where Maslack left off? And when this bill was drafted, Alaska may have had CC/OC restrictions?

Virginia has a fee for uninsured motorists? Wow, Va is sounding better and better. Hell, if NY had such a fee, we wouldnt be in the financial mess that we're in. All of the illegals here would fatten the States pockets for sure!

K, back to this Vermont Gun Plan. Sounds like a good idea to me. As stated, the anti's will then have to put their money where their mouths are.

I like the Vt gun laws just the way they are...almost non-existant :celebrate. As long as Vt stays pro-gun and allows legal citizens the right to protect themsleves, we'll be good to go.

Ill be visiting the in-laws in Vt (near Poultney)this weekend, so ill have to ask my father-in-law if hes heard any buzz of this plan.
