Hey guys finally back on here after a delay. I emailed SECU the other day about the "Concealed Weapons are Prohibited" signs. Emaile reply stated that they're in the process of changing them to say "No weapons allowed concealed or otherwise"

I stated SECU. Which means ALL SECU locations. Yes after a year I post. My daughters medical condition comes before posting on here.

Cutting to the chase.

SECU = State Employee's Credit Union, a NC based banking facility.

OK, they are anti self defense. A vast majority of others in their market are not. Can you guess where my money would not go?

since you have quantified your post to mean ALL SECU locations: the one in Goldsboro has the concealed sign on their door yet nothing more. further, nada, nothing, not a word was expressed as i chatted with the majority of the tellers behind the counter about the firearm OC'd while there yesterday.

therefore OP, care to provide some substance of the email you received w/POC so others might 'ping' the same entity .

grape, sorry, goldsboro's SECU has, to the best of my knowledge, not forbid their patrons to carry in their facility.

Solus - I will always defer to local people with first hand knowledge.

Mine is often generic, too broad brushed, from Mr. Gore's interwebs.

My branch in Raleigh has the same sign. I emailed didn't mention my branch and they said all locations are changing. He didn't say when but said they're in the process of changing the signs. There are new signs at the location off 401 that reads" All Weapons Concealed or otherwise are prohibited."

So I recently moved back to NC, and went to my local SECU branch (Greensboro) to reactivate my account (and open a new checking account) and noticed these signs.

Wow. I didn't realize this happened. One of the main reasons I used to bank with SECU when I was in grad school at ECU (2009-2011) was because they were NOT posted for OC.

We need to bombard them with complaints.

alas dreamer, the reason the signs were not shown was, if you remember, NC statutes specifically stated financial institutes were GFZs. that specific provision was dropped and all of a sudden the financial institutions then put up signage,. my SFCU branch went from no signage ~ covered by statutes, to no OC, to NO weapons whatsoever, now they hesitate to even let LE in uniform carry in the building.

btw, nice to see your smile again...

Chiming in: The various SECUs I have visited in Hoke and Cumberland counties have all been posted against carrying, OC or CC. Fortunately, their Cash Points ATMs don't care.

Note: Financial institutions were not GFZs by statute; the law changed to allow CC in addition to OC. This was effective 1 Dec 2011, per HB650 (formally known as Session Law 2011-268).

http://www.ncleg.net/Sessions/2011/Bills/House/PDF/H650v6.pdf (page 7)

The change did not require them to allow carry of any/either kind; they were still at liberty to deny armed entry.

I know this is an old thread but being a new member I thought I would post my comment on the subject.

Posting against concealed carry is allowed under NCGS 14-415.11 However I cannot find any statutes that allow banks to post against open carry.

Welcome to OCDO Joseph, the inclusion of the ‘conspicuous signage’ verbage into NC’s statutes [14-415.11(c)(8) by the state’s legislature in 2011 has wrought a lot of discussion for such a short statement, for example:
1. What does conspicuous mean?
2. What size sign?
3. Where must the signage be placed?
4. What is the citizen charged with?
5. Does the citizen get their firearm confiscated?
6. Does the citizen get their permit confiscated?

Bottom line, sign do not have carry the weight of law, store management must must ask the citizen to leave, then notify LE when the armed citizen refuses, then prefer charges of trespass against a citizen who is found/discovered OC/CC’g in a private establishment with ‘conspicuous signage.’

A further example, go through the main entrance of a mall, signage will be found. Yet go to the one of the mall’s capstone businesses, Macys, Sears, Pennys, etc., and check their entrances, no signage! So armed citizen’s entry to the main mall’s premises has no signage whatsoever so has 14.415 been violated?

Back to your query, most signage states “no weapons” which in private property owner’s perspective, means ‘no guns’ OC/CC’d on their premises.

Finally, be aware, establishments like COSTCO have included ‘no weapon’ clauses into their membership contracts and their entrance sign normally just state, “members agree to security clauses” .

Again, welcome to OCDO’s forum.

Banks are private property. Therefore they may make their own decision(s) regarding OC and/or CC.

Those things not specifically addressed by statute or legal ordinance are by default legal.
