Last Event: 03/04/11 S On Committee agenda-- Criminal Justice, 03/09/11, 3:15 pm, 37 Senate Office Building on Friday, March 04, 2011 8:34 AM

Im not sure how this process works. Let me now if this is correct or not.

On March 9th the Criminal Justice Committee in the Florida Senate votes yeah or nay for it to be taken up. Then it goes to the Senate floor for a yeah or nay vote. If passed then it goes to the House for a vote, and if the House passes the bill it is then law on July 1st.

So, if it passes committee, roughly what would the be most realistic date this would go to the Senate floor?

The amendment makes it effective upon the governor's signature. If Charlie Dean says Yea in Criminal Justice, then it will go to the judiciary committee, then it will go to the rules committee. It goes through a similar process in the house. Once it passes both houses, I think it goes to a joint House/Senate Committee, then to the governor.

I may be wrong but I think it will probably go pretty well. It's the Senate we have to worry about. Senates tend to me more anti-gun. However, If CJ committee says yes, it probably makes it more likely that subsequent committees will vote yes.

The earliest it could be effective would be sometime in April.

CJ, judiciary, rules, then senate vote, and house vote, Gov. signs it. Only thing I'm worried about is campus carry killing the support of the middle-of-the-roaders, without which it may not pass legislature...

Hopefully, testimony for the bill will be competent. States tend to copy eachother. Open Carry is the norm in this country, Florida is outside of the mainstream. This will be pointed out

I don't think campus carry should freak fence sitters out either. The media usually says Utah is the only state that allows it. Not true. Utah is the only state that overrides public college POLICY. People who carry a gun on campuses in many states won't face any jail time or fines from the state, which is not the case here. If I carry a gun, openly or concealed, across the border in Alabama, I can only be asked to leave. I won't go to jail. In Florida, you can go to jail.

Yeah I lived in Ocala, Fl for a little over 4 years. I always hated the strict laws on Carrying. Always thought it was funny they could argue its dangerous to OC when SOO many other states say the opposite. Well it is only a matter of time before this SB234 (I believe it is) will get passed. Pro-gun state house and Gov. Those are to keys to the puzzle of 2nd amendment freedom in Florida.
