Rumblings of a change in the law

There is some talk floating about that there is a desire on the part of some people (legislators and others) to restrict open carry by changing the law to disallow open carry in the same places where concealed carry is allowed.

This is a response to situations where certain people have open carried into local government meetings. These same people being "freemen" or "sovereigns" and having issued "arrest warrants" for duly elected local officials who are present at such meetings. Such people are quite apparently trying to intimidate elected officials.

I don't like this response. I don't think this is the best solution.

But if some people who open carry, even if they are a tiny minority, act with open hostility to others while carrying, that gives traction to this kind of response.

Teddy Roosevelt said, "Speak softly and carry a big stick." A handgun is a big stick. Speaking softly ought to go along with it.

Perhaps some should oc to a meeting and speak as to the civility and polite manners of open carriers in general as contrast to the few disrupters.

President Theodore Roosevelt was a wise man, and the words he spoke in this regard are truly ageless.
