If he were around today, he wouldn't pass muster with the TPs. Iran/Contra and Amnesty.

I understand that he wasn't a big 2A supporter, but hell he was only wounded in an assassination attempt, I'd kinda be leery a bit myself. But then again,, just me sayin it. Machinegun ban,,which? I thought the first big one was 1934? Gotta go back and check my gun control history.

I Should have been more clear when I said "machine gun ban" I was referring to the ban on machine guns built after 1986.

His anti-gun policies started long before the assassination attempt. As governor of California he signed a mandatory waiting period, he also signed the Mulford Act "prohibiting the carrying of firearms on one's person or in a vehicle, in any public place or on any public street."

Good talker but his walk?..

Let me paraphrase Reagan, "Government is not the solution, it's the problem." Yet, in EIGHT years in office I cannot find one single department or organization he dismantled. His "Blue Ribbon" committee found all sorts of things to cut out and he didn't touch any of them.

I fail to locate a president who led a charge to tear down any of the powerful extra-Constitutional bureaucracy that exists in DC. Jackson at least was willing to battle the Bank but someone willing to tear out the illegal and unConstitutional? Anyone???

When we have our "elections" for President, we are presented with several "viable" options but who decides who is a "viable" candidate? Not me or anyone I know. They just show up in the media and we get to choose from the options that someone gives us. I want "None of the above!" as a viable choice that can win and eject these "viable" candidates until they put up someone who will really be a good choice for this Nation and her People.

Then there was the Meese Commission on Pornography and the escalation of the Drug War, both representing a more expansive role for government in private lives.

The GOP utilizes St. Ron to rally the troops, but the myth and the truth of the matter don't match up...in many ways.

Ronald Reagan was a president, not a dictator. Unfortunately, Congress (including a House of Representatives that was controlled by Democrats for all 8 years, including 6 years of Speaker Tip O'Neill) did not share Ronald Reagan's views on spending and the size and scope of the federal government.

And That's the TRUTH. TY Most everyone forgets that Under Reagan the economy grew jobs by the millions and taxes went down. Everyone can find fault in just about anyone but seldom do they find the good. Just me sayin' it.

Ronald Reagan believed that someone who agreed with you 80% of the time was your ally, not your enemy. Some folks here can't stand anyone who disagrees with them 1% of the time. That kind of dogmatic bigotry hurts our common causes.

Ronald Reagan was still a progressive just not as progressive as most other Presidents in recent history. Which made him "extreme" in the "extreme" lefts point of view and a hero in the fake right's point of view.

I still think he was better than most other presidents we have had for awhile.

Reagan was an interesting President, true. However, he is not the ultra conservative superman his present image portrays.

He spent and spent. He did not cut. And honestly, I have to wonder about the 2nd term, as he did die of Altzheimer's. The flub during, if I am remembering correctly , one of the debates before the 2nd term is quite telling... (Where he totally forgot what he was saying and bumbled for several minutes.)

The Iran Contra stuff was done, illegally, and was admitted to by Bush I, conveniently after the statue of limitations.

People forget he was a Californian Republican through and through. If he was a recent Republican in the South, holding a seat in Congress, he would have been called a RINO and would have faced stiff competition from a Tea Party candidate. Probably would have lost in the last elections.

His words on this link are as true today as they were when he spoke them years ago. Who's the next Ronaldus Magnus, or George Washington. WE NEED ONE!!!

Reagan was a one of a kind. He was a liberal who embraced more conservative ideas once he saw the parallel between liberalism and the soviet enemy who he correctly understood to be an enemy of all free people on earth. Though he didn't do a complete 180, and everyone had something happen in those 8 years to complain about, he still did incredibly positive things.

That said I don't think we want "another Reagan". We just need another strong willed conservative leader to do the best he can to advance freedom, though at this point I'd almost welcome an Augusto Pinochet. If we don't change something soon, we might have no choice left but that or something MUCH WORSE.

If it's all the same to you I'll tolerate the former, since few of us will survive the later.
