Question about Luke AFB Recreation area at Fort Tuthill camping

Some friends of ours are planning a camping trip and are eligible to camp at the Fort Tuthill campgrounds, which are only eligible to military personnel. The directions on the website say to follow signs to the Luke AFB recreation area to get to the campground. My question in this case is:

It's a recreation area for Luke AFB, but is not actually on the base or anywhere even nearby (near Flagstaff) -- what would be the legality of carrying while camping here? I have a CCW permit that is valid in AZ as well but don't even want to Concealed Carry or Open Carry without knowing about this, since it is loosely attached to the military. I usually carry when camping/hiking in National Parks/etc. but since I'm not military, I'm not sure how this breaks down. Can anybody clarify?

'desk' clerk i reached, since the director/assistant director were not available, stated firearms must be unloaded w/ammo stored separately in visitor's vehicle when asked about firearms.
when i asked why, 'we are an air force base! was the clerk's response.
my response: really, the property is marked as such?, no response.
my query: why isn't the information put on the website? the clerk responded: we are not allowed to! and i just told you the policy.
my query: please put me through to the director's phone mail. left a message asking him to call me back.

Director - Ken Briles
phone: 928-774-8893 ext. 27
email: kenneth.briles@lukeevents.com

Assistant Director - Paul Hegedus
phone: 928-774-8893 ext. 25
email: paul.hegedus@lukeevents.com

desk clerk was immediately agitated with my firearm questions (yes i was polite!!) so not sure if i hit a hot button or not.

Thank you for looking into this, Solus! I am interested you hear what the director tells you. Since thus isn't actually on the military base the desk clerk shouldn't have been THAT surprised. I mean, it's basically just a reserved camping area within the county park for military only.

be careful...http://www.newser.com/story/228506/teen-hiker-killed-during-lightning-storm.html as i am not intimately familiar with the location of the fort against the highest peak in Coconino county.

I checked on that lightning story - that's pretty far from where we are staying. The campsite we are staying on is just a reserved area within the tuthill county park for military & family. I'm not military but am camping with people that are. There's no other military base or presence nearby, just this area is a recreation area that is administratively "attached" to Luke AFB (not literally).

Just replying to bump this in case you heard anything back regarding this in the past week or so. Thanks again for anything you've found out and already did so far!
