Garland Public Shooting Range is a no carry facility. Two minutes ago, I was told I had to remove my OC'd handgun. It is not posted (no properly). I first went to this range nearly 30 years ago and have been a infrequent regular. Guess I'm done with them.

Got filmed/photographed again last night

Took the puppy to check out the dog park in Kerrville yesterday. They have a really nice park facility in that town and we were very impressed. Nobody seemed to care about my OC.

Later, we went to OST Diner in Bandera since we're out of groceries until we go to WalMart this morning. After being there 20 minutes or so it became jam packed. When we were ready to leave I had to go up front to pay the cashier. When I looked around to see what was taking my wife so long to come up front there was this lady sat there right behind me with her cell phone held up pointing directly at me. When she saw me turn around she started to lower her phone, turned bright red, then raised it back up as if to not make it so obvious. Like I said before, I really don't mind this...if I end up on her FB feed all it will do is help spread the word!

My experience with ranges is they don't want OC. If you ask them about why, they'll tell you it's for insurance purposes. I had the same experience at both Bullet Hole range and A Place To Shoot in S.A. Though they're OK with OC in the store.

I understand not running a tactical range hot, but this is something else. (Was there to shoot rifles, so the pistol was irrelevant.) Ironically, when I started shooting in 1981, this was my range. We often were OCing when we arrived.

The rest of the day was uneventful. Home Depot, Ray's Hardware, Shiskabob's, and Bates #2.

Must be a Texas thing. My buddy is in Bulverde, and his nearest range is the one near New Braunfels. Says they are anti-carry and have lots of other unbelievable rules like accusing you of stealing if you pick up your own brass that hits the ground.

Most of the ranges here are pro-carry, including the county shooting park (required by law to accept it) and the two biggest private clubs. There is one that is anti-open-carry, so several of us have quit going there for the last couple years. Kinda of a shame, because they had a nice bar inside, but we have plenty of real bars that are pro-carry anyway, so no big deal.

I totally understand what you're saying...I mentioned before that I think I need to put some flashing LED's around my rig for anyone to even pay attention!

.
On another note, wife and I went to check out the new Forge Restaurant/Bar last night in Bandera. I didn't carry because I assumed it would be a 51% place which it doesn't seem to be. I enjoyed a nice beer since I was unarmed but next time I'll do carry and coke. :) I've got to say, the food was phenomenal: corn fed Wisconsin sirloin, 12 bucks a piece with side salad, veggies and baked potato. Anyways, that's besides the point...

Thursday was the Chamber of Commerce "Lunch & Learn" advising local businesses about open carry and signage. When we were approaching The Forge I thought I saw some new big red signs in Lowe's Market (grocery store) windows by the doors. It did ruin my dinner a bit because all I could think of was going round to check out the signs and then put my [cunning] plan in action to get them removed. Turns out I was mistaken (thankfully) but I do have a feeling some signs may go up somewhere in the next few days due to that meeting. Also suspicious is that the town Marshal never did respond to my email about the whole issue.

Staying back on track: Besides Mini-Mart, Walgreens, etc. I did my usual bi-weekly trip to WalMart money center and then the Woodforest Bank with no issues (as usual) :)

You can look up a liquor license here to see if it is blue or red. http://www.tabc.state.tx.us/PublicInquiry/Status.aspx

Well I have been all over Wichita Falls and the only thing to report was that another customer in Home Depot wanted to take a picture and the manager of Harbor Freight came up and gave me a knuckle bump saying that's cool.

I've been in Walmart and nobody said anything. Turns out the girls where I get my haircut owns more guns then I do. This morning I went to the airport sat down and ate breakfast (non secure area of course) and nobody said anything. If the cop there was paying attention like I think he was he didn't say anything either.

I've only seen one other in the wild on his Harley, and I know people have seen me on mine on my hip.

14 years of concealed, I'm happy with the open.

The only place right now I don't know whats up with at this point is the County Annex to get your registration. Last I knew the local powers to be voted that the Annex is considered official court use and prohibit carry period. Last I heard was it was sent to Greg Abbott as they were in violation of the law. Though unofficially I have heard report of someone whom had open carried in there to get their registration and nothing was said. Just don't know where it stands with the AG at this point.

About two hours spent at Sam's Club in Southlake yesterday. Jeans and a tucked in t-shirt with the Glock 20 in a Serpa paddle holster. The trip resulted in about 30 positive comments and conversations with both customers and employees. One person even took a picture with me. Not because of my sidearm, but rather my shirt.

Turns out that a big "Hillary for Prison 2016" logo is very well received by the local population. The somewhat disappointing side of this story is that not a single person so much as commented about the sidearm. Obviously a good thing, but all I got to talk about was how Hillary belongs in the Big House instead of the White House.

Wrapped up with a visit to the Grapevine Nissan showroom that ended with another photo request. So pleased to report no issues at all. Situation normal... nothing to report.

Carry on!

Haha I love those Hillary for Prison T-shirts. I was going to order one but was worried most people would misread it and assume I was a supporter.

Not really sure why shooting ranges in TX are so anti-carry. I think it's because it's so new and they'll eventually get used to it. It just strikes me as odd that places you would assume should be pro-2A have such issues with people carrying.

Yesterday did the weekly shopping trip to WalMart in Boerne. Absolutely no issues whatsoever as usual. :)

Someone finally noticed! Checking out at the self-checkout during my weekly trip to Kroger, and was standing about five feet away from the "overseer," with my right side towards him (nice guy, been there forever). He asked if that was a Tazer or a pistol. Didn't seem to familiar with firearms or TX laws, so he was mainly asking a bunch of questions (what caliber? it's licensed, right? etc.) while I checked out. Didn't seem bothered at all, nor did anyone else in the vicinity that could overhear.

That's cool! Always great when somebody's willing to chat, in a positive way!

Wally World, Walgreens, Mini-Mart, China Bowl, Lowes, Dollar General, Petsmart, Amergy Bank, Subway...and a couple new places to add: Bill Miller BBQ (Wurzbach near I-10) and Wash Me Car Salon (Culebra just outside loop 410). Again, no issues or concerns. :)

Great experience last night

I was driving home from work and when I got to the intersection of Hwy 46 @ Hwy 16 I saw Scott Sharp dancing around waving his "Sharp for Sheriff" signs. For those that don't know, Scott Sharp used to be a Bandera County deputy until he blew the whistle on the dept. for corruption, etc. and wrote a book about all the shenanigans. Anyhoo, I double-backed and stopped off to say hello.

He gave me an autographed copy of his book and we had a really good chat. A few minutes in the ex-Fire Marshal showed up (some guy called Brian--they obviously knew each other well) who now works for LE doing arson investigations. The three of us chatted for a while but both these guys said that even though they're LE and have been purposely looking, that I was the first they'd seen. Bottom line is they were both ecstatic to finally see someone OC'ing. Scott seemed like a stand-up guy that doesn't mind going against the grain of the establishment.

After getting home, I went to Cowboy Capital Pizza in town to get food but also to give the owners several of these vinyl signs I had made:

Told them to stick one up (to replace the one he had printed off the internet) and gave them some spares to hand out to other biz owners in town that they may know (since they obviously know more people than I do there). I have plenty of other spares on hand in case the opportunity arises for me to hand some out to biz owners myself personally. It would be nice to see one in every business in Bandera!

Nice!

Suggestion: Swap out the pistol silhouette with one of a holstered pistol, since that's a more accurate representation of what we're advocating.

Maybe something like this: http://thumbs.ebaystatic.com/images/g/P9MAAOSwe-FU92u3/s-l225.jpg

Worked with Scott for a few months before I went overseas again. Only got to talk to him for a little bit but he seemed like a stand up type of guy. IMHO, anybody who will stand up to the "Bandera County Good 'ol Boy LEO establishment" gets my vote.
I didn't connect the name with the guy I worked with.
I LIKE that sign...tells it like it is and am glad that Scott is a pro-OC type of Sheriff.

Yes sir! And loving his book so far...especially the bit about that "Seth" character (the cop who was scared of guns, and who released a prisoner when prisoner's family approached his squad car and said if he didn't release him they would kick his a**) which cracked me up! Might see Scott dancing with signs up on Main Street over the weekend since polls close Tuesday.

BTW, although I never heard back from the Marshal about the sign meeting, he's also apparently very pro-2A.

Henderson, NV now Texas. I move a lot.
Or like this:

http://tinyurl.com/h2exyc7

Sorry, can't break/cut the one desired image out by itself.

The following instructs might be a pain at first but I assure you: once you have the basics of it, you can rip an element out of any image in less than 2 minutes. Hang in there!

- On the net, display the desired image and Hit the "PRT SC" key on your keyboard (usually located to the right of the F12 key)

- Click on the "Windows" icon at the lower left of your screen

- In the search, types "mspaint.exe"

- Hold the "CTRL" key and press "V" to 'hover' the image

- Press the "ESC" key (this will actually 'paste' the image)

Now

- Highlight the part of the screen you wish by click dragging the mouse, forming a box around the content you wish

- Drag that box to the topmost left edge (scrolling UP if you must)

- click any other part of the screen to set the image

Now

- Viewing your right and bottom scroll bars, you'll see a little box (which you might have to scroll down and or to the right) but they're in the middle

- Click drag each of them to frame the image you pasted

- Save the image [preferably as a .PNG file]

- Insert it into the forum as you normally would.

---------------------

* If you mess up, pressing "CTRL" + "Z" acts as an 'undo' to your last action.(s)

* Refers to PC not MAC, Linux, or Commodore Amiga

I originally tried it with a green check mark over the pistol silhouette but that didn't look right. I had approx. 30 of these signs made up so next batch I'll try the holstered version. :)

Just an FYI: opencarry.org doesn't seem to be loading/working. However, I can still get here by coming direct to the forums URL.
