My wife, my six year old daughter and I were just walking into the local Yokes grocery store today when an older gentleman noticed my 1911. He asked me what department I was with and I said none. He looked confused for a minute and then I turned towards my little girl and told him "she's worth protecting". "I agree" he said, we smiled and walked away.

How it should be. :D

I like hearing the good encounters. Sometimes reading the bad encounters gets me a little down. :(

Sounds like the older gentleman was surprised that you were carrying, but 'seemed to understand' when you indicated your daughter's presence in your reply. Kinda 'seems' like a "Why would any full-grown, mature, normal, adult need to carry a weapon?" mindset...
