Can anyone tell me what is involved with petitioning a court to have a gun returned from evidence after a case has been dismissed??

Last year I broke up a domestic fight while carrying and the police confinscated my pistol and charged me with disorderly conduct. I couldn't afford to fight it and plead out to a six month deferment with dismisal at the end of 6 months. the case has been dismissed now, but the da refuses to release my gun from evidence. I am quite poor and really cannot afford legal fees. It's a cheap gun and as far as that goes it definately won't be monatarily worth it to hire a lawyer, but it really bugs me that they have basically stole my pistol.

If this relates to the city and county of Denver, I doubt you'll ever see it again.

Either way, it is possible to legally represent yourself. Try calling the office of a court and inquire if there's anything you could do--file a motion, etc.--to try to recover it. Good luck.
