I was just wondering what everyone's personal preference's are. There are tons of options out there now a days such as the ones listed in the description. My personal preference is for a blued, metal framed, DA/SA auto usually in 45 ACP. What's yours?

Last weekend I found a Bersa .45. Felt great in my hand, but was two-toned (gold hammer, slide lock, safety, trigger). Can you say "conspicuous"? It's nearly as bad as the pink KelTecs.

I usually stick with a 380 or 9mm, just because they're easier to carry and conceal when necessary.

But the best I've ever shot was spouse's Star PS, .45 auto

My preference is that pulling the trigger utilizes the same action every time. I gravitate towards Glocks and 1911s, followed by revolvers or DAO pistols and I am leary of DA/SA pistols like the Berretta 92. Well the 92 has a few other features I dislike but I feel that the DA first shot is a feature that hurts first shot accuracy more than the safety benefit it is supposed to provide.

I voted stainless - revolver...which is funny because I do not own one. Let me explain...my opinion is that stainless 5-7.5" barrelled revolvers cannot be matched in pure beauty. I am hoping to pick one up within the next year or so, hopefully a 5-7.5" Ruger Redhawk in .44 Magnum. That being said, I carry a Glock 23...mainly because it is a workhorse. Tha is the most important thing to me for what I carry.

That being said...I also like...1911's (Particularly Sringfield), Smith and Wesson revolvers, Taurus revolvers, Ruger revovlers and Mark IIs and IIIs, Sigs, Glocks, CZ's ( I have a 75BD - truly a well crafted weapon), Bersas, Kel-Tecs, Kimbers, Paras, FNs, oh and don't get me started on rifles and shotguns...anybody see a pattern here?

I would like to walk into any gun store and say,"I'll take one of each, please."

I love my 229 but would be very pleased if I could get one that was blued with wood grips. Similar to the first 210 I saw years ago and still kick myself for not buying when it was a steal. Ya listening, Sig?

I think a well customized two-tone 1911 is a thing of beauty, but personally, with my body shape and hand size it's not the weapon for me.

I am very uncomfortable with a SAO for safety reasons. Maybe I just don't understand all of the saftey mechanisms built into these pistols, but it just seems a little too risky for my type.

My personal preference is for a semi-automatic (I have never been drawn to revolvers) black, polymer, SA/DA pistol.

As for the SA/DA debate, it's something I train for regularly. I like the safety and increased response when I am pulling the trigger for the first time, but once the first shot is off, I want the rest to follow quickly. When I go to the range I'll traditionally do 50 or so rounds of 3 shot groups, dropping the hammer inbetween them. I try to build up plenty of muscle memory for that "long pull, short, short" action.

I'll take a DA/SA pistol or revolver. In fact why, not both ? Having a BUG is always good. I like the .357 Mag for revolvers. (I like being able to alternate ammunition.) I use 9mm parabellum in semi-autos. I have more experiencewith it than with the .40 or .45 calibers. As for finishes, either one isok.Mypicky feature is grips. I like big grips on guns, because they allow me to get more of my hand and fingers around them for a better grasp. Call me a worrywort, but I feel like I have better retention with more hand and fingers.

I have found a liking for Rugers and GLOCKS.

The poll is defective. There is no entry for single action only, thereby eliminating the 1911 ... arguably the most popular handgun of all time.

4" alloy frame 1911

Why wasn't there an option for single action in the poll? Looks like you left out all the 1911 guys.

I open carry a Colt Government Model 80.

Here goes (strictly my opinion): - "Best all-round hand gun ever made."

Its a SS 1911 carried in condition 1 for me.

Livitup....this may be actually one of the safest ways to carry anything while at the same time one of the quickest to pull into action if needed. Do some reading on this, many of the most experienced self defense experts agree on this.

Cheers,

Fitz

Old topic, I know :D

My personal preference has always been the first auto-loader I ever purchased. I bought a Para Ordnance LDA P12-45. It is a DAO pistol in a stainless steal finish. It is a beautiful pistol and shoots extremely well and accurately.

The gotcha is the LDA technology that Para Ordnance employs in the manufacture of their pistols. The trigger pull is unlike any pistol you'll ever have a chance to fire. It is a DAO pistol, but with a SA trigger pull. However, when pulling the trigger, there is a significant distance to pull, like most DA pistols and revolvers. The difference is that it is not like the stress of a traditional DA pistol. It's very smooth and light.

Once I got used to the pistol, I fell in love with it.

Loud and clear zoom! Blueing sounds like a nice idea but im partial to the nitron finish on the Sigs as they are, very durable and ant-reflective. Although a nice pair of hogue rosewood grips sounds like a very nice addition! I just might pick myself up a pair for my 229! http://www.hogueinc.com/getgrip/merchant.ihtml?pid=367&lastcatid=45&step=4

First off, I carry a Walther PPK/s .380, and a S&W SW99 .40, both DA/SA. I've always prefered semi-autos over revolvers simply because of the increased round capacity and morenarrow frame.

Finish? Either one...I think it depends a lot on the gun. I have hadthe waltherfor a long time, and always wanted to get it parkerized so it'd look like James Bond's, lol. I finally got the money and found a good place to do it at, and then all of a sudden I realized I have a beautiful stainless steel pistol! I still wanted a more tactical weapon, so the next handgun I bought was black (SW99).

As far as action goes, I'm DA/SA all the way.

I like it better than SAO because I can draw and fire the weapon without having to worry about disengaging a safety. My SW99 has no external safety, so all I have to do is draw and fire. If I'm carrying my walther in a holster with a strap that holds the hammer in place, I leave the safety off. If it's concealed, the safety is on.

I like DA/SA better than DAO because, until recently, DAO meant DOA if a round in your gun failed to fire. I just can't imagine why you'd want to carry a gun that didn't allow you to attempt a second strike on a misfire.

While I agree that, for most, the first DA pull throws off accuracy, that iscompletelyresolved by simply practicing enough. It was mentioned earlier that, to shoot well with a DA/SA, you have to spend time at the range doing first shot drills....3 rd magazines, first rd DA. It might be easier to be accurate with a DAO, but with the proper time and effort, it's no MORE accurate than DA/SA.

I also like having the option of switching to a tight SA trigger, instead of being stuck with a DAO pull.

The frame material also depends on the gun, I think. I like metal frames for smaller guns, and I'm really not sure about larger guns. My SW99 has a polymer frame, and while it feels balanced in my hand, firing it definately makes the gun feel top heavy. I don't know if a metal frame would feel better or not, since I have little experience with large steel framed autos. The main reason I bought my SW99 was the way it felt in my hand, regardless of the material.
