Hey all,

If this question has been answered i apologize, I looked through the thread names and didn't see it so I figured I'd post this. Move if necessary. :)

So, on other forums people have asked about the legality of open carrying with a legal suppressor. (Granted they were talking about long rifles.... I personally don't see the need for that at this point. If the cop killing and crap gets much worse, I might change my opinion. But I digress... )

So my question is, if I legally obtain a suppressor, put it on a pistol, and open carry it. I assume it's legal because I haven't seen anything saying, "No Open carry of suppressed firearms" but do you all think it would help or hinder the cause of open carry in general?

Thanks!

Sure legal.
But I have wondered before if it doesn't open you up to being accosted by LE. You are required to show NFA paper on demand to ATF agents and also "investigators".
Whether any bum with a badge qualifies as "investigator" I dunno. But I can imagine getting more Blue attention than my current desire (none).

That would make a very long barrel sidearm. A 5 inch barrel 1911 with a 6 inch suppressor? Methinks it might be a bit clumsy and in the way of about everything except standing and walking.

while legal, so long as purchased legally, with NFA papers.. I don't see the purpose for it unless your intention is to assassinate someone with little attention.

frankly loud booms are more likely to clear the area of potential innocent unintended targets.

While OC of a suppressed handgun is likely legal anywhere OC is legal, doing so creates certain problems for everyday carry that we must consider.

One - special holster and very difficult draw stroke/presentation when the need exists for the defense of self and loved ones.

Two - the image perceived by others will likely be seen in a less than flattering light. As we educate others by our conduct and to normalize OC as we go about our everyday business, we must anticipate their response.

Three - the need to have Class III paperwork with you at all times when a suppressor is introduced into the mix.

There is also no rule against OCing more than one handgun, but OCing 4 or 5 at a time might be a bit over the top and I think not contributing to the acceptance of a normal, everyday routine. IMO, such would make one appear to be a potential aggressor, rather than a normally passive defender of the faith.

I have not made a holster for a suppressor yet, on my list for a friend is a M&P 9 holster with a tactical light. IMO a fast draw holster for a suppressor would be easier than the light. Basically the holster would be fully open until the suppressor, as soon as the suppressor clears it's part it would swing forward. Still I would not carry with a suppressor, it does beg for LE attention, and would be uncomfortable sitting.

If I was to do it(even though I would not) I would use something like a Ruger SR22. Actually if the suppressor is in the holster, LE might not even notice it, would look like a long barrel.

Suppressor pistol holster. Suppressor completely covered, holster cut low forward. As soon as the suppressor clears it's part of the holster the gun is free to bring on target.

Again I am not suggesting it, but it can be done.
