In the MO city's or counties that ban open carry, whatare the criminal penalties?

Also, can a citizen get you in trouble for open carry, even though it's legal in your locality, due to the fact that they feel threatened?

Thank you for your answers in advance.

I feel threatened every timeI see a 16 year old behind a wheel, but it is legal. Feeling threatened is my problem andI have to deal with it.

The case for open carrying is even stronger because your right to carry is protected by both the federal and state constitutions.

The penalties GREATLY vary from location to location. This is why it is very important for us to pass firearms preemption legislation. There is a thread here in the Missouri Forum addressing this issue.

Please contact your state senator and tell them to support SB 217!!!

In addition, I would NOT open carry where it is illegal. At a minimum, you are going to lose your weapon and probably NEVER get it back. Missouri recognizes any CCW permit. It is much easier to abide by the law as written until we can get the proper legislation passed. Believe me, I will be the first to open carry in Jefferson City MO when the governor signs this legislation into law.

The only way they could legally feel "threatened" is if you brandished the weapon. From my experiences open carrying in the neighboring community of Jackson MO, no one even looks at you. I assume most people consider that you are a LEO and go about their own business.

Your best bet is to call the local authorities to confirm if open carry is legal. Better safe than sorry.....(legally)

Perhaps a better approach would be to ask and official of the jurisdiction; “if they have any law or ordinance prohibiting the open carry of firearms”? If so, “please cite the applicable sections for reference?”

That allows a simple yes or no answer without a gaggle of ifs, ands or buts attached.

I once on my way to work took my jacket off in the truck and stopped for gas, pumped the fuel and went inside paid for the fuel. Walked into and ordered at the attached Mcdonalds was inline for awhile and the whole time I am walking around openly carring nobody even looked at me if they did they probably thought i was law enforcement .

Does anyone live in Lincoln county and asked about open carry here?
