Hello from Katrina ravished S.E. Louisiana.

Ever since the storm, I have been open carring around my neighborhood and on localerrands. The level of riff-raffhas increased drastically and I want them to know thatwe homeowners won't tollerate the looting and pilferaging. Not that I have had any problems personally, but why let them think they have a chance of being sucessful.

I would like to hear from others in Lousianaasto how they carry, when they carry, etc. Believe it or not, most people I speak to on the subject of open carry don't even know that is legal here.

As for encounters with LEO, I haven't had any. They either didn't notice or didn't care. Just the way I like it!

There is a guy on PDO who is a LA resident. He seems frustrated by the limited acknowledgement of OC legality in your state.

He seems to have a basic misconception of some political issues, but seems to have his heart in the right place. Crashvector I think is his handle. maybe you two should get together and do some public education on the subject.

I carry concealed in Louisiana, with a Florida license. While anyone without a criminal record can legally carry openly in Louisiana, the reality of the situation is that you will almost surely be stopped and questioned by law enforcement. It is much easier to just get a concealed handgun permit.

I'm not trying to be confrontational or argumentative, but it is also much easier not to speak out on issues that are not popular, even though free speech is guaranteed by the First Amendment to the Constitution. Does that mean that we should keep our mouths shut to avoid unpleasantries from those who do not share our beliefs?

OCDO encourages OC and (IMHO) is an invaluable source of information and experiences on the subject. However, I don't think anyone here will disagree with me when I say that OC is not for everyone. Almost without exception, those who do OC regularly will be questioned about it at one point or another. If that is something one feels a serious need to avoid, then CC would be the way to go.
