o.k., so on the way back from the willow lake event, Phoneguy and I took a detour on to beacon hill. We happened to find a parking spot at the beacon hill station so attempted to go check things out (the company I work for supplied all of the concrete for the LL Rail project for most of the rainier valley & beacon hill, including the beacon hill station, and although I delivered countless numbers of yards of concrete, my entire view of the station was from street level).

police (king county, seattle AND TSA) presence was extremely heavy, but no one attempted to stop us from boarding the elevatorto go down to the underground station. we looked around for about 5 minutes, noticing the increased presence of police in the underground station, & returned topside. we chatted with the guy handing out informational packets for a couple minutes & then left. Although we were definately getting the "evil eye" from a couple of the LE officers (mostly the TSA cops), at no time did any of them approach either of us or say anything to us....hopefully, a sign of things to come with respect to the LL Rail.

"TSA" police? TSA doesn't have police.

Light Rail has their own 28 person PD now... effective yesterday. Plus 65 unarmed security officers.

well, their shoulder plackets had TSA boldly embroidered on them...I'm assuming TSA stands for TSA...although I could be wrong

KCSO, Metro PD (contracted by KCSO), Sound Transit PD (contracted by KCSO), SPD, TSA/Homeland Security, ATF, and SPD are all playing together for the grand opening of the LLR.

After the weekend, it will just be Sound Transit PD for the most part along with the local PD for whatever jurisdiction the train happens to be in at the time.

ATF for the use of their bomb doggies; TSA because they 'plan' to eventually start screening land transportation as well (I hope not).

Intel I've seen (can't be specific, sorry) has already noted several threats against the light rail, one serious one.

Nicks is hoping this will help in getting him re-elected I figure, and the more hub-bub and pomp he can muster over the event, the better, he figures. :quirky

I think its a horrible misappropriation of personnel, but that's just me.

Beyond a few (2-6) officers for presence in these situations, you are getting into "riot control" levels of silliness. :?

Another example of how too many of our Washington mayors believe the towns and cities THEY WORK FOR are their own personal fiefdoms.

You twowere not the First, you guys never even got on the Train!so if you call that riding the light rail well you guys did ride the elevators down and up 16 floors if you think that counts. Its not a big dealto open carry, we only have the Publics concern in mind because as you know it tends to freak them out a little. had you boarded the train we would have just simplyjoined you for a fun ride but ignored you.

As long as your obeying the law we are not going to detain you or violate your rights. we are all Americans here. we might come up and talk to you in casual conversation but thats not a detention thats just good Police work and it makes the non gun lovers happy that we at least recognized the situation.

In thisinstance at Beacon Hill we were aware of your "open carry" before youeven got to the topsideelevators via cctv and leo eyes on, its only situational awareness and doing our job to protect the Grand Opening of light rail. Everyone has a job andthe "Goverment" isn'tout to get you. you mention the "evil eye" uh were just doing our jobs guys and no one bothered you not once. i think what you interpreted as the "evil eye" was more of a "you guys are dorks" look than anything else lol. (no offense)

Why were you not contacted? because we are Veteran cops that know the rules and are familiar with the right to Bear Arms. No need to make rookie mistakes. :)

you two left in a Silver Chevy HHR and we moved on with life and more important things. you did livin things up a little for about 5 minutesuntil we realized who you were and what you are trying to represent.

Life is good guys! Chill. We like Guns too.............

Smitty almost seems trolling, or perhaps a low level security guard. The spelling and grammar "bear arms" for instance is questionable though. Cops I know do a better job of that, having edumacashun, college degrees and all that silly stuff.

LOL, awesome.:D

But seriously, the majority of us are not faulting LEAs for doing their job, especially in a professional manner, we are simply fed up with Nicks (and others like him) arrogance.

Personally, I understand that orders are orders no matter how ridiculous they may seem, as long as they are lawful and moral orders, you gotta follow them.

I am not questioning the LEOs being there, I personally am questioning the apparent necessity by the "powers that be" to have 4 agencies and dozens of officers on overtime for nothing more than a media event such as this was.

I'm sure many officers got pulled away from family or other events they would have rather have been at on such a nice day, just to provide a neto backdrop for a bunch of bureaucrats who like lots of blue suits behind them when they flash their thumbs and bleached white teeth to the cameras. ;)

But you didn't notice the gold Tahoe with the antenna farm scoping out the new transit system radios. BTW, using XTS5000s is complete overkill for TSA. They rarely run digital, and BTW, digital does NOT equal encrypted.

1) with the exception of the actual titel of this thread, at no time did I mention that we actually boarded the train..please read the entire post before you assume things and start correcfting me for something I never stated.

2) even though we were obeying the law, there was always the possibility of being harassed/detained, and if you think otherwise, perhaps you should read through the forums and see how often it DOES happen.

3) I never implied that the government was out to get me..again, see number 2

4) I'm imagining that it had more to do with the transit security personnel whom I was asking about the legality of parking where I did.

5) Although there's no doubt in my mind that there are CCTV's around..I'm not usually in the habit of searching the area for 'em as I've got nothing to hide

6) unless you were physically in my general location, you cannot say for certain what the particular officer was thinking nor the "look" that I perceived to be the "evil eye" (again, for reference, see number 2 above)

7) being a verteran officer does not mean that you're immune from being human...SOME veteran officers have a problem with OC and will do what they can, whether questionable or not, to "persuade" others to not OC.

8) Most importantly, I was not (I can't speak for the other individual) "representing" anyone but myself. I work for the concrete company that supplied about 80% of the mud for light rail project & although I'd been topside countless numbers of times, I'd never been below ground level at the station. I was simply curious as to what had been done.

9) I never implied anything to the contrary of your "life is good" statement, and as for chilling out, I don't believe that there was anything derogatory in my initial post that implied otherwise. ( I WAS amazed at the "alphabet soup" agencies that were represented, but don't believe that my post implied I was at all unhappy with the way things had worked out.)

I've only ever seen TSA in P25 mode at the airports, usually 172.900 or 172.150.

BTW, last summer, every rookie handcrew team leader I met on various forest fires had an XTS5000, and I know of at least 5 that were lost in fire zones, kicked into creeks, dropped in campfires, etc.

Until APX's start appearing everywhere, the feds are going to continue to buy the latest and greatest.

Speaking as one who HATES his XTS-5000.

I'm sorry, I do take offense to that comment. American Citizens having the means to protect themselves in accordance with the rights afforded to them by the Constitution should NOT be considered to be "dorks" or abnormal or anything like that.
