OC in NOLA

I saw another thread about this but I wanted to make my own and ask a bit more extensively. I am travelling to NOLA in the near future and have seen many bad things that have occurred in this town. For personal protection, I will be bringing my handgun with me and I want to know how many of you have experience OCing in NOLA. I presume that, like KY, you are not allowed to carry in establishments solely dedicated to the purpose of serving alcohol, but how about a restaurant that serves drinks? Is there anything I should know that is unique to LA law when OCing? I have never been stopped before by a LEO for carrying, but I am very well aware of my rights regarding OCing and civil law in general. Any input would be appreciated. Our hotel is I think a 10 minute walk from Bourbon Street and I'm wholly unfamiliar with the safety of the area in general so any comment as to where to avoid / stay near would also be highly appreciated.

EDIT: I've answered one of my questions already
§95.5. Possession of firearm on premises of alcoholic beverage outlet

A. No person shall intentionally possess a firearm while on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet.

B. "Alcoholic beverage outlet" as used herein means any commercial establishment in which alcoholic beverages of either high or low alcoholic content are sold in individual servings for consumption on the premises, whether or not such sales are a primary or incidental purpose of the business of the establishment.
...

So basically, nowhere that serves alcohol?

About that... http://www.lrc.ky.gov/Statutes/statute.aspx?id=40574 - Loaded Open carry does not equate as being the only mode of Open Carry. Unloaded open carry into a bar, or other by-the-drink is perfectly fine.

Sorry about trampling on the NOLA folk, but I wanted to correct that, lest anyone find out, and then report him for his lack of cite to authority in regards to no carry -at all- in bars.

Fair enough, but why carry an unloaded (though all guns are loaded) gun?

Additionally, if you're in a restaurant that HAS a bar, as long as you're not in the bar area you're still allowed to carry.

Do not OC in a place that serves alcohol for consumption on the premises without being prepared for a fight. You may win the fight but you'll probably take the ride... especially in Nola.

I'm seeing Kentucky laws that appear to display preferential treatment for unloaded guns being discussed in relation to carrying unloaded guns in Louisiana restaurants with an alcohol selection. I'm unaware of any similar preference under Louisiana law; did I miss something?

If the plan is to hit up the steakhouse prohibition under our new constitutional provision, best not to do it from jail.

Edit: By the way, that provision you found is one of our two major landmines, the other is the 1,000 foot school radius. It isn't marked off and there's schools all over the place.

What Sergi said above. We have lots of legal landmines. Don't carry into any place which serves alcohol for on site consumption. Don't carry on school property or within 1000 feet of a school. Don't carry into any government buildings (police stations, town halls). Most "tourist" places such as the French Quarter are going to be off limits for OC and out of state CC due to there being at least 3 schools within the area known as the FQ. Then there are the numerous places which will have bans on carry or, if they see the firearm will tell you about the ban even if it doesn't exist such as the aquarium or the zoo. Expect serous push back from the police agencies in the area. Open Carry is not something many of them like and there is currently a lawsuit against the city, NOPD and one of its officers who came up behind an OCer shopping in Whole Foods and assaulted him. The lawsuit is being handled by Owen Courreges https://www.facebook.com/owen.courreges?fref=ts . Research the laws, consider CC at all times if your state is recognized by La, have someone you can call if things go bad. Good luck and stay safe.
