I've been lurking around here for a while now (long before I started OC or even owned a firearm). I know that members here do occasional meetups and whatnot. I'm here in Las Vegas. I am new to the whole OC scene as I just purchased my first firearm a few weeks back. Been to the shooting range, etc. I don't have my CCW yet although I hope to begin the process soon. I was wondering if there was a scheduled OC meetup anytime soon?

I was Chatting it up with some OC'ers at Fremont last eve, we were kicking over the idea having a BBQue at one of the City of Las Vegas Parks. It is a little cutting edge I know, but that is how we have always rolled.

Any Discussion?

Isn't there a local law/ordinance against that though? I know... cutting edge...

No, the ordinance only restricts the act of carrying concealed.

Unless I missed something, it is my understanding that they passed an ordinance that allows licensed concealed carry only. They dumped the old park ordinances and made new ones. Of course that null and voids them as they don't have the authority to pass new laws under state preemption.

Pointy end and slightly to the left
Tolerance, DSan welcome to the open carry nv. We had one of our larger meet ups this Saturday. Kind of hit or miss when they happen. However many in the turnout was talking about trying to do it more often.

I agree. However what if they're enforced?

Sorry I missed that happening. I get lulls in my stupid busy work schedule to review anything like that I missed, not so thorough this time it seems... *Gah* State pre-emption kinda kills it though like you said. If I end up having a reason to go to a park I'll post how it goes.

Lol, thanks. I'm a lurker and have been here for a while
<---- Join date :)

I was planning on making the meet up Saturday but the rally and then subsequent house clean up ended with me passed out on the couch at 1800 waking up at 2100 going "Holy crap! I'm missing Heart Attack grill! Grrrr!!!" Sadly, my time travel wasn't working until 2021 so by that time I'll be that creepy guy in "futuristic clothing" (A space blanket and reflective vest) going "You get 'em guys! Wear your tinfoil hats so they can't read your mind!"

On a serious note, I will be making it to the next one, if I'm not traveling during one of the 30+ trips this year....

I found the Muni code, The online version I found says it is accurate as of mid Oct. the City council decision appears to have happened in Dec. Getting our hands on the updated version of the code is paramount. here is the ol school version:

13.36.055 - Prohibitions.permanent link to this piece of content

(A)

The following are prohibited within any City park:

(1)

Fireworks, firearms or weapons of any kind;

(2)

Fires, except in barbecue facilities;

(3)

The hitting of golf balls;

(4)

The use of metal detectors, except for surface finds; and

(5)

The unauthorized sale of goods or services.

(B)

Pursuant to Subsection (B) of Section 13.36.050, a copy or summary of the regulations listed in Subsection (A) of this Section shall be posted at each City park.

(Ord. No. 6112, § 6, 9-15-10; Ord. 5837 § 1, 2006; Ord. 5287 § 1, 2000)

I know we cannot "Quote the paper" but it says licensed concealed permit holders would be exempt from the prohibition of weapons in parks. It does not state that you HAVE to carry concealed. If it did it would be Moot anyway as that would be a brand new regulation and would be preempted.

Here is the text of the article:
Council members Stavros Anthony, Ricki Barlow, Bob Coffin and Steve Ross, however, disagreed with Freeman and were in favor of making an exception for concealed-weapon permit holders.

"I can't support it if it is going to prohibit these permitted, concealed weapons," Coffin said. "That is not where the illegal activity and crime is coming from."

The council, during the recommending committee, voted 5-2 to add the exemption, with Councilman Bob Beers and Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian voting against it.

I was surprised to see that Bob beers was not on board.
