I've just moved to IA. from MA. . I have the " Basic Firearms Safety Certificate" issued by the MA. state police. I never got around to getting my CC in MA . Will IA. honor it or do I have to retake an exam here? I'm sure I'll have other questions but this will get me started. I do know that I will have to get an IA. ID. Thanks for any info. in advance.

Welcome to Iowa and OCDO!!

From a quick glance at the latest Iowa Code 724, it appears you may have to take the course here. I dont know what kind of access you had to classes for the certificate in MA, but you have quite a few choices. Any web search will lead you to a number of reputable organizations that hold classes. There are also online classes for around $30. Ive posted those below for you.

Please take the time to read Iowa Code 724. It is the firearm laws for this state. If you have any questions, let us know.

Thank you Tucker6900
I lived in a rural area so we went to class at the local Humane Soc. . Instructor was a former LEO, Swat team leader and the Firearms instructor for the county PD's. Good guy ,very informative and not a hard a** but got his point across. Thank you again for the links . I'll look into this asap. I just arrived on the 15th so I'm settling in and all that good stuff. I'll also search for ranges in my area.
UPDATE: Chap 724.9 1-b appears to recognize MA. permit. did I read this wrong?

I am not adverse to taking another course to facilitate my permit in IA. I have just heard of a course, www.MyLegalHeat.com, that purports to cover 15 states initially including AR. and UT. which with those permits, covers 37 states total.I'm not planning on driving around the country (not a lottery winner, :) ) so it seems to be a pretty good deal. BUT, we go back to the above que of Chap 724.9 1-b Does anyone have any info/thoughts about this course? I'm doing my homework and as before thnx in advance for any help.

Never heard of them before. Here are a few that I know will be familiar with Iowa stuff, as well as actually being active in Iowa politics and actively helping to reform our carry laws: http://www.iowacarry.org/trainers.php
That's one of the issues with a free market -- hard to find product reviews sometimes -- but it beats the pants off of what we had to deal with for the last decades.
