I know the NOPD will harrass you for OCing downtown, or anywhere in Orleans Parish, but with the rising crime rates, even in broad daylight, in Jefferson Parish, and on the West Bank, I was wondering how bad the LEOs are about harrassing those that OC. I just turned 21 and wish to OC till my CC permit goes through, and will probably OC more often than not.

Also, I keep hearing stories about people being asked if they are an LEO, then if they are military. I can see people associating military with guns but why would it matter? Would an LEO give you less grief if you are military (which I am)? I don't think it should matter since it's my right, but I don't know of any law stating that military are allowed to carry whenever and wherever. People seem to think so though. If I were asked I wouldn't lie, but I would tell them that it doesn't matter, and that they could do the same thing.

Since my arrest in Gonzales for OC'ing, I've retained a New Orleans attorney to handle the federal lawsuit against the Gonzales bozos. His office is in the CBD. When I go to see him, I'm ALWAYS OC'ing in that multi-story, multi-purpose building. So far, nobody has been alarmed enough to call the infamous New Orleans cops. Granted, it's not something I look forward to, with their well-deserved reputation for abusing/killing others, including each other. Since Louisiana's constitution is quite clear, I will continue to open carry. The choice is yours. Exercise a right or be a serf.

I fully intend to OC wherever I go, however I just want to be prepared to deal with whoever is harrassing me. I don't have to worry about legal matters as long as I stay within my rights and the law because I can always get a Navy lawyer to fight any bogus charges.

If I'm being charged with something that would make me a felon if convicted, then yes, I believe they can help me. if not, then that's messed up. If it was just a confiscated weapon that I wanted back, they would just prepare the paperwork for me, and tell me getout.

I just had a OC experience down in NO this past w/end. Was riding my Harley through Quarter and ended up putting down Bourbon St. Lots of walking traffic and slow riding. Saw lots of LEO's, mainly Staties, in their blues. Made a stop for pedestrians and then continued, all the while I could see 2 troopers out the corner of my eye to my right on the street corner. Next thing I know, a golf cart caught up with me with them in it asking me to pull over. Yes, pulled over by a golf cart with one male, one female trooper! They were young and very nice, but surprised I was OC on Bourbon St. He said locals would string me up if they saw it. He pulled out a 4" Gerber and said not even this was allowed on Bourbon. He acknowledged I was doing nothing wrong, but suggested I get to where I was going fast. Yes, I coulda said why you pull me over then and all that, but he had already said I was doing nothing wrong. We had a laugh and I went on my way. I do not feeled compelled to bow up when they do not threaten, even if it was a Terry stop. It just confirms what I know is right. OC is legal, if you know the law and have a set!Bottom line is that they know it is bad in NO and I am a good guy. Why waste time with a law abiding citizen? Especially when cops are getting shot and robbed here lately?

As far as I know (U.S.A.F., 17 years), the JAG/Legal office can not help much for civil matters. They can only get directly involved if you break military laws/regs. Anything off-base you usually need to see a civilian lawyer.

That actually makes sense. I'll check it out though.

I OCed to McDonald's, and O'Reilly's Auto parts today, and was kind of surprised that nobody said anything. It kinda felt like people were being extra nice to me. I'm not sure if it was because of the gun, or because I was in a chipper mood after going to the range for a while.

Where were you in N.O. or somewhere else?

I was in Marrero, not exactly NO, but south westbank suburbs basically. I don't think i would ever carry downtown because the only time I'm there is when i drink, so I can't carry anyway. I think i won't get harrassed too much in the suburbs or even if I keep it to Jefferson Parish and Plaquemines Parish. It seems to be Orleans Parish that has the issues.
