I just got this via a friend with a scanner---->quote "just heard some **** on the scanner you might find interesting..

CPSO got a call of a man walking around with a gun at the sea wall by the civic center. officer asked is he pulled the weapon or threatened anyone dispatch told him no it is in a holster on his right hip walking with a young lady at the sea wall both white the SUBJECT is wearing blue jeans and a LSU tshirt.

Officer on scene tells dispatch he has subject on the ground at gun point asking for another unit. dispatch asks if he is resisting and officer says no he is being very cooperative!

They run him no ncic no criminal history they run the gun comes back registered to the SUBJECT.

10 minutes later 1 white male marandized in route to tripple C

charged with illegal carry of a firearm.

Ok first I love that anyone they stop even if it is a traffic stop your are called a subject but strait up this man was arrested for open carry." end quote

OK, who was it?

Is there really enough information to make a judgement call here? While it certainly sounds like the police were in the wrong, we have no police reports and no further details. This could be one of the .000000001% of the time the police are in the clear. Personally, I would like to see more information.

What does this mean?? REGISTERED to the SUBJECT????
This is one of several questons I have if this report is accurate. Keeping in mind that we don't have any gun registration in this state the most they could do is run the numbers and see if it comes back "Stolen".
Also, is the seawall a public area and is it under any sort of Preempted gun ban. Is it near a school which would put it in a Federal Gun Free Zone? Was he on the Civic Center property and is the Civic Center posted as a No Guns zone? The charge is Illegal Carry of a Firearm? Was the OCer under 18 years old? Was he intoxicated? Was he intentionally trying to conceal without a permit and doing so badly? Why was he proned out by the officer if he was not resisting and being cooperative?
Who was the OCer? Is he someone on this forum or the LOCAL forum? We have a LOCAL member who lives in Lake Charles. Was this him? Did the OCer have a recorder on during this encounter?
I hope to see what oldgoat finds out soon.

My initial post was VERY tongue in cheek as we don't have near enough to go on at this point but on the data given, it looks REAL bad for the cops. We will see.

I did some digging and finding police beats in your area is next to impossible. Your newspaper doesn't seem to publish them to your website and the only thing I was able to find was a website called crimereports.com which has a map of supposedly every crime in the area posted to it. I see nothing in the area around the civic center posted for yesterday, so I'm guessing that the police got this guy to the station and realized they couldn't charge him with anything and let him go.

It'll be interesting to see otherwise.

From the Bayou Shooter thread-
"If he really wants to know he can go to the sheriffs office and check the arrest books. It is public info. It gives arrestees name, address, and charges. "

Why not submit a FOIA request?

A few things, but nothing important.

I talked to my deputy friend today, he doesn't know anything but says he'll see what he can find out.
That may take a day or too. (patience is a virtue I guess)

The reporter shocked me, I actually got a response. She wants a name, date, and time, and that I do not have.

Someone suggested I do a FOIA, I have no idea how to do that.

I'll just wait for word from my deputy friend.

Sorry guys thats all I have, oldgoat
