Deputy responds to a call about a suspicious vehicle in a driveway, gets shot, returns fire. Kills both perps. Good guy gets to go home.

Authorities said two people are dead and a sheriff’s deputy was hurt after an officer-involved shooting on Monday in northwestern Minnesota.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was called to a residence on 50th Ave. in Hudson Township at about 9:17 p.m. on a report of a suspicious vehicle in a driveway. When officers arrived, two people were inside the vehicle and one of the occupants fired at the deputy, hitting him in the chest. The officer returned fire, and the suspects fled the area.

Authorities said the vehicle traveled a short distance before getting stuck in the snow, and the suspects fled on foot. After a detailed search, the two suspects were found dead in the deep snow near an outbuilding. Officers found a firearm near both of their bodies.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said the officer involved was wearing a bullet resistant vest and was treated for injuries at the Douglas County Hospital and released.

The names of the officer and two suspects involved have not been released. The incident is under investigation by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

I am glad the officer is ok. Course, the exact details are not known but it sounds like a. it was a justified shooting and b. some training paid off in a big way

UPDATE: Officer involved shooting; Douglas Country MN

http://likeomggunsareforlosers.blogspot.com/2014/02/update-officer-involved-shooting.html

Looks like it was another drug case.

Hoping for a speedy recovery for the deputy and all the families involved.

Another point, the man who shot the deputy killed both himself and his child's mother. The deputy did not kill them.

Even the best of reporting can get screwed up:

The father of a man who authorities say shot a sheriff's deputy in Minnesota before killing his girlfriend and then himself was likely motivated by a child custody dispute.

Authorities say the 24-year-old Blowers shot Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Dustin Alexander at a farm in west-central Minnesota Monday. The deputy was wearing a bullet-resistant vest and is recovering. Officials Blowers then fatally shot Christopherson and himself."
