Looking for a compact BUG for my OC piece

Normally my only mode of carry is CC, except for at work. You see, I am a security guard and must carry openly while working. Even though I am pretty good at retaining my weapon, my biggest fear is for some BG to snatch it from me, regardless of how careful I am and however unlikely or improbable that may be. For that reason, I am in the market for a compact BUG that is highly concealable and will fit in either an ankle holster, a pocket holster,or some sort of belly band holster such as Smartcarry or Thunderwear. I have narrowed my choices down to any caliber of Kel-Tec, a GLock 26, a Glock 27, a Glock 30, a derringer of any kind, one of the Taurus small frame pistols (see here http://taurususa.com/products/gunselector-results.cfm?series=SF1) or one of the Taurus medium frame pistols (See here http://taurususa.com/products/gunselector-results.cfm?series=MF1). Any recommendations?

For a good BUG, I would suggest either the KelTec .32 or a NAA Mini in .22 Mag.

Both make really good pocket guns which is how I like to carry a BUG for OC.

Just my opinion though. That and $5 will get you some caffeine at Starbucks :D

The GLOCK 30 is bigger than you'd think, and the GLOCK 26,27,33,&39 aren't much smaller.

For a true bug, an airweight .32 H&R Magnum or .38 Spl revolver,a Kel-Tec or Seecamp .380 or .32 would be the best choice, for deep concealment. Kel-Tec makes a single-stack 9mm now... I've been eyeing them myself...

What is your primary carry gun? I think it makes sense to have the two guns compatible, in caliber if not interchangeable magazines too. I carry a Glock 35 or 23, and use a 27 as backup. While the 27's magazines won't fit the larger 35 or 23, the larger gun's magazine will work in the 27 if something goes haywire with the primary gun (mechanical problem, or it's dropped or taken away.)

Even without magazine interchangeability, it's good to have the same caliber ammo for both, no need to weigh yourself down with multiple calibers.

I'd recommend against the derringer, because you only get two (not particularly accurate) shots, followed by a way-too-time consuming and potentially fumbling reload. I have a derringer in .38 Special, andunless I was at arm's length or closer, I'd rather have 5 shots out of a mini-revolver. The mini-revolver is as accurate as the derringer, if not more. But keep in mind that both the mini-revolver and derringer are single-action, another drawback. I would consider either as a reasonable 3rd gun, but not my first choice as gun #2. To me, those are deep cover guns only. And even then I might draw a blade before deploying a derringer or mini-revolver.

Except in unusual circumstances, I don't think an ankle holster is the best option. If you're spending alot of time sitting, then it's worth consideration. On foot the bellyband or pocket holster is a more prudent choicein my opinion.

Good luck! Let's hope you never need to test whether you've made the best choice!
