On January 15th. With a fair number of similar thinking politically active folks. Join up with a group of people trying to convince and push a bunch of legislators to do the right thing with regard to guns and 2A. You can even carry, open or concealed and not have to go through the line and metal detector.

Links for more info below. This is primarily sponsored by VCDL.

I will be on the bus from Lynchburg. It will most likely be loading up at the Wal Mart on Wards Road. I am not confirmed on that but it loaded up there lasts year.

In any event it will be a good ride with good people from early in the morning. And you will be able to feel good and say with confidence-- I did not just type on a forum or send an email-- I went to them and made my voice heard.

Leaves a good feeling. Remember gents, with Northup there we have to gird up and sharpen the sabers.

Free?

I haven't seen any announcement of buses this year. Previous two years, VCDL has asked for payment for the buses, but has not denied seating to anyone.

--snipped--

Only members of the General Assembly staff and registered Lobbyists do not have to go through a line and detector.

Not if you're one of those people who will not give their local government any money for a piece of paper to exercise a right

Remember that old saying from the late 60s? Be there or be unarmed?

The saying at the General Assembly is "pay for a CHP or come here unarmed"

so here's a question

if a registered lobbyist does not have a CHP, are they able to carry openly in the GA ?

Yes.

No one is required to have a CHP to open carry in or out of the General Assembly Building. The exception being in the Senate gallery

don't we get a message every year before lobby day stating you need to have a CHP to carry in the building, and didn't Mr Nap always have to go in there unarmed?

Or does the CHP possession only apply to those wanting to use the other entrance to get in the building, but open carriers with no CHP can use the regular entrance?

I'm a little confused on this now

My mistake - you are absolutely correct.

"Places where carry is prohibited in Virginia

General Assembly Buildings except for CHP holders (Joint Rules Committee rule)"

The thing that OCDO members leveraged here is that while the intent of the Joint Rules committee may have been to allow concealed carry within the building with a CHP, the wording only said "carry is prohibited" which meant if you have a CHP "carry" is permitted and "Open Carry" is an form of "carry". The tendency on Lobby Day is to "Open Carry" to help those in the building understand that folks from all backgrounds and ways of life "carry" and to understand how some of the bills introduced make doing so difficult, if not impossible for decent, law abiding citizens to legally "carry" in their everyday lives. Hence the right to bear arms IS being infringed by so many of the bills proposed by the Anti-gun folks and if allowed to enter into law will have ZERO impact on the behavior of criminals but will have significant impact on law abiding citizens.
