Been open carrying in Meijer, Chow Hound, Autozone, and a few other places around Holland for the past couple of weeks with no issues so far. Delivery driver for Petrino's Pizza shook my hand and said he appreciated that I open carry (a first for me).

Carry on.

Just wanted to say thanks

I lurk here because I have nothing to add, I don't OC. I carry concealed while off duty under LEOSA. But, I appreciate and support what everyone here does when they exercise their rights. Those that "poo-poo" what you are doing fail to recognize that what you folks are doing is turning the tide in our favor.

I'm sure that many of Rosa Parks' friends and family told her to move to the back of the bus too so as not to "rock the boat". But, she didn't and neither should any of you.

Carry on (literally)

+1

I often think about the ones who started MOC and others who did so much to make open carry almost normal, and getting more normal every day. Thanks to them!

Yesterday: OCed at Walmart in Livonia, as I was walking back to my vehicle a man approached me and asked for more information regarding OC. He said he had his CPL but just wasnt sure if he could OC. I showed him a laminated hard copy of MSP Legal Update 86 that I carry in my pocket and gave him the MOC and OCDO websites for further information. He was deeply appreciative. Also OCed at Harry Army Surplus and Subway in Dearborn, Connor's Family Dining in Dearborn Heights, no problems no issues.

Yooperlady and I (me OC'ing) decided to have lunch at Coney Island in Clio. The place was packed and I had to step carefully because of all the eyeballs that had popped out and were rolling across the floor. Other than that no issues.

And today must have been an eyeball day :shocker: because on the way back we stopped at Beacon & Bridge outside of Montrose for gas. Funny thing was the staff didn't blink an eye but many customer eyeballs were seen rolling around. Again... aside from having to be careful not to step on any eyeballs there were no issues.

Today was a bit different than yesterday while OCing out and about with my Hunny Yooperlady at:

Family Dollar in Bridgeport to get some kitty litter.... no one cared about my sidearm or the kitty litter either.

Wal Mart in Clio for some odds and ends and it ended up with no one caring about my sidearm...

Taco Bell also in Clio where the lady who was next in line passed on the $5 I had left to pay for her lunch so the next person could have it. She and I chatted for a moment and I noticed she saw my sidearm yet she was so very friendly and she agreed there just isn't enough kindness in the world today. And a young couple ended up having most of their meal paid for..... and the young couple kept sneaking a peek at the guy wearing a gun. But that was it....

Then we stopped at Conlee Mobil in Montrose so I could air up the tires on our Camaro since they all were a little low due to the colder ambient air.... and an older lady pumping gas took notice of my sidearm... and that was all.

So today was just another day out and about while wearing a gun. Of course some people noticed and yet of those who did notice no one ran away screaming... no mothers clutched their children to their breasts in horror... no manly men puffed up their chests in righteous indignation... no SWAT showed up... hell, no one even missed a bite of their lunch!! .... and we went on about our day.

Out and about with my Hunny Yoperlady and I OC'd at:

Taco Bell in Clio where my sidearm was noticed and no one cared... And the lady behind me in line that had the $5 I left for the next person in line deducted from her bill came to our booth to thank us.... and my sidearm was a total non issue during the entire conversation.

Wal Mart in Clio where a couple stopped in near the sporting goods to talk about open carry. I gave then an explanation, a printout with a link to this forum, and answered their questions. The gentleman carries concealed but liked to see open carry and wished more people would do it.

Ok... we paid for two carts full of groceries (slow visit) and poor Yooperlady got stuck putting it all in the truck as a fellow on a bicycle pedaled on up to ask many questions, and had many complaints about his local police depts. handling of his renewal for his CPL because they told him since it had lapsed he had to wait 60 days before he could renew. And they told him he had to retake the class............ -sigh-

Anyway... this gentleman also had his questions answered and got a printout with a link to this forum... and he said he had seen me open carrying at that Wal Mart before.

Now.... the thing is... I've noticed that when folks come up and ask about open carry the question:

"Do you get hassled?"

is within the first 3 questions asked. I'm always honest when I reply that I have been asked to leave a couple of businesses... and then I tell them about the time in Montrose Township park when the officer stood at my side and explained to 20-25 people (including one ... ummm... I'll call her a "lady"??? who was adamant that she had a right to not see a gun) that what I was doing was not only my right but was legal... and they had NO right to expect me to not do it. And that very true story always encourages the people I'm talking with.

Ok... then we went to Beacon & Bridge near Montrose for gas where the ladies behind the counter were as friendly as always even indulging in a bit of "pass the time" BS banter and no one, not even the customers, cared about my sidearm. To be honest though I stop there all the time so the staff knows me.

OCd into work, located in a PFZ, as I have done for quite some time. I noticed that signs have been placed in various locations stating that areas beyond the signs have been declared "Weapon Free Zones". I ignored them but thought ID better check if the board had passed a new policy for employees. After I found nothing, I decided to ask regarding the signs. Should be interesting. Other than that, I've OCd around town, no issues at all.

I OC'd last Monday at Menard's and Gander Mountain. I don't normally post my experiences which are usually uneventful, but on this occasion I had an encounter with a young man, maybe in his early 20s. He was a Menard's employee. I was there with my dad and needed to use the restroom. I went in and did my business in quite a busy restroom. There was another father in there with three or four of his children and a couple of other individuals. I kept very aware of who was near me or behind me at all times. As I was drying my hands, I could see an employee walking up to the dryer next to me. He finished quickly and walked out. I walked out moments after he did and started glancing around the nearby isles for my dad who was wandering around.

The young man was just hanging around the area, and I had a feeling that he was wondering about my sidearm. He approached me, and very politely said, "Can I ask you what you have on your hip?" I wasn't sure how to take his question, so I simply answered, "It's a Springfield XD in 9mm." He asked if I was law enforcement to which I replied "no." He then told me that he didn't "think" it was allowed in there. I asked if it was posted and informed him that it was legal. I also told him that the last time I was there that I made a number of purchases in various departments and dealt with at least half a dozen associates and chatted with a few fellow customers, none of whom said a word about my firearm. He seemed surprised and said that he had just never seen that (OC).

A brief conversation ensued, and I believe he went away with a positive attitude toward OC. I told him that criminals aren't likely to be walking around the store with a holstered pistol, rather they hide them until they are ready to use it. I made a few other comments and statements about OC, CC, and the 2nd Amendment, all of which he agreed with verbally or with a nod. I only wish I would have had some information that I could have put in his hand. I'm sure I gave him and his co-workers something to talk about at break time as well as a topic for him to Google after work.

No one else in Menard's or Gander Mountain seemed to notice or care that I was carrying.

carried at the rally, a few of us went over to classic arms(which has an moc lawful carry welcome sticker, that i happened to give them a few years back) and we were told we had to unload our firearms(there were no long arms) if we wanted to stay in the store, nothing was ever taken out of holsters or anything. so we left and i dont think ill return.

ive been carrying just about anywhere and everywhere i lawfully can without issues except for the classic arms thing above

on a side note, i had a small hiccup in my cpl application and i had to appear before the board, which i did yesterday, long story short they decided to approve me, so i should finally have it in the next few days.

Yooperlady and I (me OCing) stopped at Krogers in Frankenmuth to get some goodies from the deli to bring to a little picnic with our friends before us guys shot some trap at the Frankenmuth Conservation Club and...........

...... nothing out of the ordinary happened exactly as it always should be.

Oh..... Yooperlady said she doesn't care how many of those "trap birds" I shoot she isn't going to cook them for dinner.

Yooperlady and I were out and about again today... me OCing as usual... we went to:

Riverside Market in Montrose where no one much cared about my sidearm and purchases were made in the usual no problem fashion....

Then we went to McDonalds drive through for some ice cream... and then off to the Montrose Township Park to eat said ice cream. There were several folks under the pavilion with kids playing in the play part... and no one cared about my sidearm.

Just another day..........

LEO Stop #14: Farmington Hills Police

This past Friday I OCced at West River Theater in Farmington Hills, I casually walked inside paid for my ticket at the concession stand, then walked over and gave the attendant my ticket promptly seated myself inside my designated theater. I had been watching the movie for 24 minutes when two Farmington LEOs approached with flashlights and asked if they could speak to me. Out of politeness to other movie patrons I quickly stood up and went outside into the hallway so as not to disturb their experience. Once out in the hallway one LEOs began to explain that they had received a call. I explained that I understood that since this was a PFZ they needed to see my CPL. I had already began to dig through my wallet to present it before being asked. The LEOs informed me that management wanted me to leave my guns in the car. However one LEO said he had explained to the staff that what I was doing wasn’t illegal. I gave him my CPL and driver’s license and then proceeded toward my vehicle. They followed a few steps behind. They watched me take off my rig and stow it at which point they were satisfied. Then just before we parted one LEO said:

“I’ll be honest with you, if my kids were in a movie theatre and a man walked in who was not clearly an officer wearing two guns, I would tell him to leave immediately.” Because, how many movie theater shootings do we need have?”

Me: “Well at the same time I don’t wish to be a victim, you understand my position too?”

His partner then chimed in saying, I understand, yeah we get it, we understand the law but went on to reiterate that since this was a private establishment I had to obey their rules in order to patronize their establishment. We both agreed on that aspect and ended the conversation on a pleasant note. In short we agreed to disagree then shook hands and I was back inside without incident. 3:56 minutes
