I have not open carried in a very long time. Noticed a guy open carry in HyVee near the mall in Sioux City. The wife actually brought it up. I asked is he acting funny. She said no. I said no biggie.

If you go anywhere open or concealed carry and act like you are hot stuff drawing attention to the fact you are carrying, you should be asked to leave where ever you are.

I see videos on You Tube of these guys open carry with a video camera and when stopped and asked what they are doing they try and provoke a response with a smart a** comment.

When I do carry, it is natural. No attention, no change in walk, no adjusting all the time, no smart a** remarks when talk to. Just the same old me. Guess I'm getting too old to put up with the "kids".

Welcome to OCDO.

As for the videos you have seen, some people are a bit more confrontational when it comes to their rights. The reason for the camera is for accountability. Yes, I agree some are baiting police, but is that so bad? They do it all the time to us. Speed traps, seat belt traps, checkpoints, etc. They sit and wait for us to break the law. I dont see anything wrong with a LAC(law abiding citizen) doing the same to LEO. Some could use a lesson in manners, but in the end, they are all fighting for the same thing.

Then don't put up with the kids. Or, simply ignore the kids. Though, based on your post, it seems that ignoring the kids may be problematic.

Welcome to OCDO.

I OC'd at the Le Mars Pizza Ranch during the noon hour today. The place was pretty busy. But nobody seemed to notice or care that I was carrying a side arm. In the buffet line an older gentlemen ask me if you needed any "special requirements" to obtain a weapons carry permit. I said no, as long as you have no criminal record there are no "special requirements" to obtain a weapons carry permit. I then told him to just go to his local sheriffs office if he was interested in getting his weapons carry permit. He thank me and then went back to his table to eat.

Back in September while traveling through I OC at Culver's and a Casey's in Dubuque all was good. I also carried at another Casey's down by the Mo/Io line but done't know the name of the town, not one look. All the places I stopped was full of people too. I think I had a few comments from some teenagers but now sure what they said.

I know this is late posting but I haven't been able to get on the forum.

Ok, I guess I don't watch the news enough since i never knew about OC being legal here in Iowa, hell I just got my carry permit because this county (Webster) never did any damn classes. Turns out since I'm a military Vet I didn't need to take the class anyways. I have yet to OC, just CC, but at the same time I've never seen someone here in town (Fort Dodge) OCing, so I'm guessing I may get some reactions, I'll have to let y'all know.

I bought a smaller, thinner winter coat so I could OC better when it's cold out. The cinema 4 in Denison is good to go. So is Fareway. I actually got asked what I had holstered by one of the Walmart employees. He seemed ok with it. I also upgraded my pistol to a walther ppk/s.

It's good to see someone from the Fort Dodge area phate83. I have family up there and they absolutely abhor firearms.

where i carried today

Took my wife out to a nice little lunch at Ho Hot at the mall in Dubuque. OC'd during the meal, then we took a little stroll through the mall. Stopped at Dicks earlier in the day (same mall) and carried there as well. No issues, everyone was cool

OC'd at Dubuque gun show

Had to get a zip tie put on the trigger guard on my Taurus, to get 'checked - in' go to The Gun Hut's gunshow as part of the Big Boy Toy Show.

Only had to do it if you were open carry or checking in a firm arm to sell. I asked the armed security guard if I could put the magazine back in since it was checked, and he asked that I dont, and keep it handy incase I have need to use it. Was surprised by his super positive attitude! Good experience!

OC'd in wal-mart last night

Got a few glances, but nobody made any fuss. Started off cc, but they have the heat up yet, so I took my jacket off, carrying my Taurus pt840 in an itac paddle holster. My wife was ccw'ing her pt809c as usual :)

Walking through Washington

My son had a track and field day in Washington on Sunday. The track itself is property of the school, but I was able to carry up to the curb. I unloaded and stored my M&P, and proceeded to cheer on my boy! Afterwords, we went to get ice cream. After we purchased our delicious treat, we went over to the town square to sit and enjoy the weather. After about 15 minutes, a Washington Police cruiser pulled up in the parking space about 30 feet from where we were sitting. He was on the phone, staring at me for about 5 minutes, backed out of his spot, rolled in front of where we were sitting, rolled his side window down, nodded, and drove off. It was interesting to say the least, but he did the right thing.

Other than that, no issues.

OC today

OC'd again at Lowes. Then at Walmart. While checking out in the self-checkout at Wal-Mart the lady at the 'island' looked at me as I turned to walk out and raised her eyebrows at me. Nobody in the store, including a co-worker I ran into gave me a second glance. Stopped for some take-out at Texas Roadhouse, had a few glances, but that was all.

Pretty much another good OC experience :)

OC yesterday

Had to make a trip to BestBuy here in Dubuque yesterday, as my tablet was acting up. Standing at the Geek Squad Counter talking with the tech, another tech came over, looked at my hip and asked if I was a bounty hunter. Said nope. Then he asked if I was a Cop. Said nope, just an every day average citizen exercising my 2nd Amendment rights. Let him know, the great thing about Iowa is if you have your CCW you can open carry.

Then on the way out of the store, he was by the entrance, and asked me what kind of gun I was carrying. Gave him the info, and then told him how he could qualify to get a CCW, and a great LGS that he could get an excellent deal on a sidearm if he wanted. His co-worker standing there with him was even listening and interested.

Was a surprisingly cool experience, and got to inform a citizen on carry rights! Good experience! :D
