Letter to Maryland tourism board

Dear board members,
My wife and I have been planning two trips this spring that would have taken us through your state. My research has shown that the state of Maryland does not recognize or honor a Michigan concealed pistol licence. As law abiding residents and both CPL holders of Michigan we enjoy the RIGHT of self defence as affirmed by the Michigan constitution and the U.S. constitution. unfortunately, your state does not provide that same gaurantee to the extent that I would have to disarm to just pass through your state. therefore, I can't in good consience even pass through your state and spend any of the incidental monies such as gas, food, lodgeing connected with our trip(s). I hope the state of Maryland will soon reconsider their stance on the right of the people to keep and bear arms in defence of themselves, the state and others in their daily conduct.

good day

If every gun owner in the US who travels through MD took this stance, and wrote such a letter, the attitudes in Annapolis would change quickly--even the sociopaths in the MD General Assembly value MONEY more than control.

It's all about the Benjamins in MD government...

It's not just MD, it is most of the NE. We have talked about going to NH & VT but getting there by car is problematic as you can't legally stop in NY (lose fed continuous journey exception) if drivinng. Getting a Maine non-resident permit for such a trip is pretty easy but it gains me no reciprocity and would only be purposeful for CC in Maine itself.

So, we have thus far just avoided the NE entirely. My wife's family used to spend a lot of time in NYC, so much so that they owned an apt there. Now that I have got my father-in-law engaged in the pro-2A movement, they have not visited the NE in several years and have no intention to do so as long as they can't at least legally have their firearm with them throughout the trip.

But that's ok as there are so many very beautiful places in the rest of the country we want to visit where they recognize our 2A rights. I am confident that I can still die happy with never visiting NJ, and never again setting foot in NY, MD or CT. Now if they would only move the Smithsonian out of DC. ...

Your absolutely right Deepdiver. The problem isn't only Maryland , it was just my immediate concern seeing I was planning on traveling thru the state. I agree that we need to make our voices heard in all these states that deny us our god given rights. My letter here was just one small step in this effort. I am not skilled enough to put together any kind of coordinated internet mass mailing to the other violators so I will just stick to one letter at a time. As grampa used to say........ how do you eat an elephant?......one bite at a time.

Absolutely agree Ken56. I didn't mean to be at all critical of your letter or your efforts to make a point with their tourism bureau and I truly hope you didn't take it that way. You were far more activist with your actions than I have been with mine.

Just think

If all who have read this thread would take the time to write/e-mail the tourist boards of the states that deny us our 2A rights do you think that would have any impact? I suppose it would be a start. you never know. I think I will come up with my own standardized letter to send to eveyone on the violator list.

Actually, I'm going to take this one step further. I currently reside in the State Of MD, and I'm doing everything I can to get out of here. YES, my child is here, but that shouldn't force me into living somewhere that is kicking me in the nuts everyday w/ corruption, Murder, and violationg my rights. Of course, I do have to go where the Money is, and that is looking like CT. It's only 6 hours drive each way, and I'd only have to do that MAYBE every other weekend. NO, CT's laws aren't MUCH better, but it's better than MD.

I'm going to write a letter to the state stating that due to the current economic, criminal and lack of basic freedoms MD provides for it's citizens, I am NO LONGER living or spending money inside it's borders.atleast something to that affect.

Its been 2 weeks and I have not gotten a reply to my e mail to the tourisim board. At this point I really do not expect one so...... they obviously don't care about losing any money a law abiding gun carrier may spend in their state. I will grant them their wish and avoid passing thru any part of Maryland. It will add a couple of hours to my trip but I am happy to spend my money in states that respect my 2A rights.

No, they dont care one bit and actually they dont want you in their state if you're pro-gun.
Last year there was a directive in the Baltimore police department telling officers to be on the lookout for vehicles with NRA or other pro gun decals on their vehicles. Im sure a lot of people with NRA stickers got their car searched illegally for that.

That should tell you something.

I grew up in Maryland and I avoid the state at all costs.
That state could slide into the Atlantic ocean with all of the morons who reside there and I wouldnt lose a nights sleep.
The MD State Police can go to hell.
