Got it. Also Wouldn't a gas diffuser, I call it that, at the end of the barrel allowing the gasses to eject from the top cut the kick? Or could not the end of the barrel be shaped like the AK47s do to also eliminate the kick?

A muzzle break well help reduce muzzle flip. They reduce but do not eliminate recoil.

People buying handguns is a horrible trend. Especially if the caliber of their choice has not been forum approved. Can you imagine the audacity?

Only transgender types need magna porting. Learn how to shoot. I'm crippled and don't need it. What's your excuse?

I was just expressing an opinion on the use of barrel porting. I don't use them. I know that I could have purchased a S and W 500 and it came with a barrel barrel porting. I don't know if it was custom made or not.

Center line of bore axis to frame is a major contributor to felt recoil too.

In a semi auto yes, in a magnum revolver not so much. My 1873 with 300 grain TC loaded over 18 grains of W296 at 1200fps is more comfortable to shoot than a Glock 22. It is actually more comfortable to shoot than my S&W 24 using +P 44 spl. Inline bore axis puts more force to the rear, while a 1911 design has both center-line push, and SA revolver muzzle flip. My 1911's are the most comfortable big bore guns I have.

A PPK designed gun is going to sting more than a gun of the same size using the browning design. All that force goes into the web of the hand, and that is where I hear the most complaints from female shooters. It is not the muzzle flip, it is the sting.

A muzzle break well help reduce muzzle flip. They reduce but do not eliminate recoil.

Actually they do reduce felt recoil, that is why they are used on 50bmg sniper rifles. Part of the recoil is from the jet engine affect of gasses burning after the bullet leaves the barrel. The fact that a shorter barrel, which has less velocity with the same load used in a longer barrel recoils more.

I don't care for the top ported guns, I hate them. The noise is directed upward making shooting without hearing protection more painful, and in low light blinding. I do like side porting which reduces the the gases burning forward, pushing the gun backwards. I have side ported shotguns for women who did not like the recoil of a 12 ga, side porting lowers the recoil to 20 ga levels. Recoil in 380 can be lowered by using faster powders such as red dot, but there will be some loss in FPS.

This should give an idea of the power of hot gasses.
