I am not a firearm's snob nor am I strongly biased about or against a given product to the extent that I ignore the strengths and features of a quality handgun. That said, I do have preferences and opinions just like anyone else. But I also manage to keep an open mind in this area as I do not want to overlook a gun that just might be the best one for me to use for some specific purpose.
The Glock is perhaps one of the best defensive handguns you can carry for several reasons, but the most important reason is its well-deserved history of reliability. This is no doubt due to its extraordinary simplicity and its minimum amount of parts. Detail strip one. Take the frame and slide completely apart with a small rolled punch or the little Glock tool. You'll gain appreciation for its simple elegance and quickly see the how and why the thing works so well.
I am not singing the praises of the "plastic fantastic", but rather stating simple facts. The Glock has its place as does the 1911, the M9, the XD, the M&P, the Sig line, and a host of other fine handguns available to us. Is it perfect? Hardly but then again, no handgun is. It was designed for one thing and it does this quite well. After market parts are prevalent and inexpensive, mods to the trigger and sights are simple to do and return excellent results, and the best thing is you don't need a gunsmith to perform these alterations.
One has to admit that the Glock, for all of its detractors, is what it is: one of the best working defensive sidearms you can carry.
