Judge: Probable cause exists to charge 911 caller in John Crawford III shooting

Good that he may be charged.

Too bad it appears only with "making false statements" as the judge has ruled there is not cause to prosecute for "inciting violence, inducing panic, involuntary manslaughter, or reckless homicide."

Those who make deliberate, maliciously false statements to police (up to and including so-called "swatters"), need to be prosecuted (and upon proper conviction), heavily punished for their conduct. Getting innocent people killed is no small matter.

Maybe the victims' survivors can get some measure of justice via civil suit.

26:24 Ritchie continues to modify his story upon seeing the video evidence. He no longer seems so certain that the suspect pointed the gun at officers. “But as soon as he [an officer] said ‘Put it down. Put it down’ he [the suspect] looked over and just, I guess, how he looked at the officer with the gun [Ritchie shrugs].”


The security video shows that despite turning his head toward the yelling officers, the rest of the suspect’s body remained facing a shelf. The autopsy shows that the officer fired at the suspect’s side.

That shooting is a big deal here in Southern Ohio. I can tell you most look at this case of cold blooded murder. The history of the cop is not squeaky clean. It is time that 911 callers need to be prosecuted pulling this stuff.

Appropriate uses of 911 are instances of immediate danger or there is a crime in progress, such as: person with a weapon (gun/knife)

Many still believe open carry is a crime.

The John Crawford shooting was a big mess down here. Until the video was released, it stood to reason that JC was acting aggressively with the air rifle and that the 911 call was legit. Everyone went after the cops as murderers but no one (except LEO's or those familiar with active shooter response) wanted to admit that they (the LEOs) had to act upon the information given to them by dispatch which was fed from the liar on the phone. Once the video was released, it was easy to see that JC was not a threat to customers in the store. While I still believe his actions when confronted by LEO's were inappropriate and subsequently got him killed, had the 911 caller not lied about the situation to dispatch, the LEO response would have been entirely different if not non-existent ( I live down here and Beavercreek is pretty lax about open carry).

I refuse to give the benefit of the doubt when cops can observe with their own eyes. Now that the video is available the cops reacted inappropriately for the displayed behavior. But, they have claimed, and the claim accepted, that the ex-perp was "armed and dangerous" and non-compliant the few seconds before he was to assume room temperature.

The sad part is that the cops are now falling back on the info they got before the saw the ex-perp.
