Thanks for the welcome and heads up on the rules, i'll keep it all handguns from here on out. I do have my cwp and carry both concealed and open. I don't plan on strapping one on, I sometimes use forums to think out loud because my first course of action is usually the wrong one. Not my fault, I was trained to survive in that meat grinder over the pond. But many of these forums are filled with very knowledgeable and level headed people and that's why I try and frequent them and learn as much as I can.

Now, wait a minute, I said the Washington forum was a great group of OCers. I didn't say anything about knowledgeable.

Ooops! There's the timer for the cornbread in the oven. Gotta run--the oven is back in VA.

Sorry I'm late guys but I was just pointed this direction, let me first introduce myself. Names Brandon, born in Coupeville and raised in Oak Harbor. Graduated in 1999 and enlisted in the US Army in may 2000. Served 3 years as a 13f(fire support specialist) and my last 2 as a 19d(cavalry scout) based out of FT Hood Tx(1st Cav). Walked the beat in NE Baghdad from mar 04-may 05. Came back to Whidbey in 07 and now work at the refinery in Anacortes but still live in Oak Harbor. I just found out about this city ordnance and it has got me a little upset. I am looking to help put an end to this in anyway I can. I have contemplated slinging my m1a across my back and strolling down the beach to see if I could make enough waves to bring this issue to a bigger audience other than the whidbey times. All this talk of bans really gets my blood hot after all I sacrificed along with so many brothers and sisters in arms defending this great nation, to have all these people trying to strip peoples rights and freedoms that every service member past, present, and future has fought and many died for just really gets at me. Sorry for the long rant and terrible punctuation, I am ready to help in any way

Welcome to the forum. We have a weekly meet here in Bellingham, at Starbucks on the corner of Bakerview and Northwest, always welcomed to join us.
We start around 10ish in the AM.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness covers an awful lot. And an awful lot of it is highly subjective.

Yes, life and liberty are absolutes...the PERSUIT of happiness is not a guarantee, it is the ability to follow your dreams.

I guess my point is that just because a person feels unsafe does not mean their rights were violated or a crime was committed. I realize that "the right to feel safe" is in previous memos, but, to me, that gives rise to the old excuse that some LEO will use, "Well, we got a 911 call from someone scared!" as a basis for detaining the law abiding citizen carrying the gun.
Suggested reply to this I may use...." So, cite me for a crime, NOW or I'll be on my way without further detainment, searches, or seizures!

That is why I added a paragraph from the Olympia training bulletin, to clarify that wearing a firearm in a holster is not enough to violate 9.41.270...

They made a motion to have those with firearms to leave or turn in their firearms. It was made by Almberg. That is the short version. And he did not get his way and left. And the pot head was back.

I am not sure what to think of the guy they singled out for CC. At one point he fed them in saying "I agree with you that it may not be good to have guns in here and around the Mayor." or something to that effect. And this was all in the public comment section.

Singling someone out for discrimination based solely on exercise of a constitutional right? That's just asking to spend your entire annual budget defending (and settling) a 42USC1983 lawsuit.

DANG IT! I so wish that I went! I can't go to the next one, because I will be in Fallon, NV. I can't wait to see the video! I'm going to finish the complaint for charges to be filed and submit them to the prosecutor, or swear before a judge if I have to. Since this is happening as a matter of public record, the complaint can be filed by anyone.

Would you have standing because you don't live there?

I am honestly curious as to how that works. Like if Seattle council did that would I have standing even though I don't live in Seattle?

Yes.

You don't have to say where you are from. No ID REQUIRED.

I think you both are hitting off base here as city councils deal with the citizens in their jurisdiction. Note you do not go to them for a county issue and vise versa.
The ones I have attended several council meetings and one of the requirements (at the ones I have been to) to state your name and address, where is it in law I do not know nor have looked for it though I do remember someone bringing in issue before a council and they declined to speak, right? or wrong? maybe rapgood can speak on the issue.

Have you familiarized yourself with the Citizen Criminal Complaint procedure in Washington? You should.

I don't have high hopes for your criminal complaint. I think a better/easier route to go would be Writ of Mandamus. Fewer legal risks to you and a quicker way to force them to do their jobs. Even if you did obtain a criminal conviction, that still wouldn't force the City to do their duty. Writ of Mandamus will force them.

I don't disagree. My point is how do they know where you are from if you don't tell them.

In Federal Way/ S. King Fire, we attended their meeting attempt to ban guns on fire district property. They had a 'sign in' sheet asking for name and where you are from. I simply put down my first name. The secretary asked for my last and my city. I simply said I choose not to give it at this time, the counsel for the council agreed and I was allowed to speak.

Furthermore, perhaps I am thinking of moving to their city, or I am a frequent visitor, etc. this is a issue that is effective of state law and has a distinct impact upon visitors to their community.

I think it would be interesting to have at least on OCer at their next several open meetings. Regardless if they speak or not, just to attend and watch and report to the public/OCDO.
