I was a victim of a felony crime tonight.

This was just barely an hour ago, I was heading northbound on military road, passing by 176th and military. I was on speakerphone talking with a friend to pick him up while driving, and saw a dark crown vict, parked on the side of the road with nose poking out just like a cop looking for a speeder would do. Dark "black" crown victoria, with spotlight by drivers mirror. Before passing I noticed he just turned off his headlight, and as I passed by and looked in the rear mirror he flicked them back on and whipped out behind me. Traveled 50-75 yards then he started high beaming. I was wondering why the hell would a cop high beam....no red or blue lights...I slowed down a bit and he kept high beaming so I thought maybe he's just trying to pass? I pulled off on side of road (military is a very busy, lighted road) and watched in rear mirror. The vict pulled behind me and slowed but did not stop then pulled back on the road, slowed beside me and I saw his silhouette (big short male) through the tinted windows. At this point he looked at me and sped off and at that point I realized this was guy trying to pretend to be a cop. I sped off after him and chased him around a 5 block radius in a circle, on the phone with my friend yelling the direction and trying to get a license plate, but after a minute or two I stopped because I did not want to possibly get into a collision and hurt someone else. I immediately picked up my friend (who was in this 5 block radius) and called 911. I reported it to Sea Tac police and they said they would send out a broadcast. Asked if I wanted to speak to an officer, I declined because there wouldn't be much to tell other than personal feelings. I then took a minute to chill out and dropped my friend off in renton, but as I came back toward my neighborhood, I did a circle just to see if I could spot the vict and get his license plate and report his location. I did not see any real patrol cars at all, I really hope 911 took my call seriously. I am now home.

Now for my feelings.
As I was pulling over I was thinking what the hell is this, (high beaming), then as I realized what he was trying to do, I got very angry as I know there are cases like this where women get pulled over and raped on the side of the road. I wanted so bad to get his license plate and have the cops catch him before he really hurts somebody. This is why I chased him but I stopped because I knew this could possibly end in a collision.
I am really tripping about this as I keep thinking if this had been my girlfriend or someone who is still having peaceful world illusions they might have been seriously harmed. If he had actually gotten out of the car and walked up to me and then ran back to his car I would have seriously chased and rammed his car for what he was doing.

Not much to do now but lookout for a dark crown vict with very dark tinted windows with a big white male inside.

Part of me really hopes he "pulls" over the wrong person and gets what is coming to him.

FYI....

The vic has a fuel safety shutoff switch located just behind the drivers side wheel well in the trunk...

Smack the 1/4 panel about a foot below the trunk lid about a foot or so from the fuel fill hole, hit it pretty hard (won't damage the 1/4 panel) and it'll prevent the car from starting......or kill it if it is currently running....

The yellow tag in the pic is advising you of the fuel shutoff switch... The switch is directly behind the yellow label, and there is a red button directly above it that has to be pushed to turn the fuel pump back on....

Strange Cars

I been in awkward situations with other drivers being aggressive or apparently threatening too. It's difficult because it's not like face to face where you have body language, verbal exchange, and tangible signals that can indeed indicate your in a life threatening situation and react accordingly. In the drivers seat, there is often little or no real eye contact or verbal exchange. You have to go on your instinct, and in the end, the police and courts (or insurance) may not feel it was valid self defense if you take serious defensive measures vehicle to vehicle.. Truth is, i have unholstered or prepped my firearm for action many more times in my car than out of it. The reality is simple, cars can be weapons, and crazy people often use them as such. Cars have been used to intimidate or threaten others WAY more often than firearms, yet to pose that you felt threatened (life and limb) by someone’s car, and defended yourself with several rounds out the window at them is usually frowned upon by LEO and courts as the afore mentioned circumstances give way to a vague and often hard to prove scenario. Fact remains, that being threatened with an automobile is just as, if not more deadly than a fist fight or other encounters with bad guys, and can be even more frustrating as it limits our options greatly (in most cases). I personally would only act with arms if someone repeatedly struck my vehicle, pointed a gun at me, or shot first, and i was un able to speed away or our maneuver them first. A side by side pirate ship style gun battle between cars is not my idea of a good scene even if i was in the right to do so. It would be a last resort indeed.

- Poo, i am glad your ok! - and brave to try and secure the plate for a report. - you did well.

Be safe,

Bat

He's done that before, and will do it again... I guarantee it...

People like that get their jollies off of people thinking they're someone with power.....

There have been times where an emergency lane change and extreme braking followed by a floored accelerator have turned the pursuer into the pursued... Just long enough to grab a pic, and call it in...

I definitely agree with you techno, thanks for that info about the fuel shutoff switch. I heard there is a guy that goes down to pacific raceways and he has a black crown vic and he's a big white male, but I do not know the area he lives in. My friend told me about this after we got to renton. There are the morons that enjoy that sense of power and there is also a possibility it is someone really wanting to do harm. I am not taking any chance. But at the same time, I really didn't want to piss off what could possibly actually be a real cop (wouldn't be entertained by an offensive/defensive maneuver) If I had known from the start it was an impostor, you'd probably be hearing about me on the morning radio. I am so mad that I couldn't get the damn plate.

Bat; I also agree with you on shooting from a car doesn't look good in court. While they have their car as a weapon, so do you. If I was in a defensive position, I'd smash off into the night and would only use a firearm if I was really trapped. Cars go fast. But other innocent people can get hurt....

NP... a lot of thugs drive them nowadays, but they're usually on 22"+ rims.....

It's a great tool.....

If , for example, you follow him to a 7-11.. wait for him to go in.. bang on his car... no damage - no breaking the law... he won't know what's happening, he just knows his car won't start... hehe...

As I said in another thread... I suggest ANYONE and EVERYONE to go through a good defensive/offensive driving course... It won't make you invincible, or turn you into Tony Stewart, but it'll give you an edge......

A lot of police courses are taught at colleges/universities..... Courses like EVOC should be able to be taken by anybody, just gotta pay the bill...

Hell, you could just go to officer.com and ask..... they should know.....

ive even pulled into the oncoming lane, as if to pass, then slammed on the breaks, so as to drop back, suddenly!
the guy behind me was so confused, i was right behind him, he didnt know what happened!

next time dont be intimidated into pulling over, go to a well lighted place, and pull in there, he wont follow, then turn out and follow at a distance, call 911 and report your
street and direction so they can intercept the bad guy.

hey POO, I/we want you safe!!!

I actually been wanting to go to a track to take an advanced drivers class for a while now, just haven't gotten around to calling them up.

I was on a very well lit, busy road (but at that moment there were no cars there), and I just pulled over to let him pass. I was already thinking about calling it in to make sure it would be a real officer...plenty of things went thru my head...but like I said, if I had known from the start, this predator would have been the prey...

I believe that if it is a retired police interceptor that it will not have the fuel shut off switch.

And the airbags may also be deactivated so it can't be "airbagged" in a pursuit.

Ever consider that it might also be a legit "official vehicle"? Driven by a detective or plain-clothes officer? Some administrative vehicles don't have blues and siren. May have thought "poo" was someone else and wanted him to stop so he could talk to him. When he saw it wasn't he continued on.

As for the idea that it was an impersonator, most of them have all the equipment. Blue lights, siren, and sometimes even a uniform.

First off, POO: why were you still on the phone with your buddy instead of 911 when you were following the guy??? And like amlevin says above, any legitimate unmarked care (or even some illegitimate ones) are gonna have the lights. If it's an offduty LEO who really wants to get you for some reason, he's gonna call into his dispatch and get a marked car with lights to actually pull you over, so as not to look like an impostor.

Now I'm not familiar with Military road. How many lanes in each direction? Could he have just gone around you in a parallel traffic lane? If that's the case, you shoulda been on the horn to 911 the minute he pulled up behind you & started playing the freak.

An officer in an "administrative" vehicle would never pull a stunt like that. If there was a real need to pursue someone, they would call someone in a proper car to do it.

I remember a story on the news a few months ago about an impersonator that had one of the really old style lights that was round on top of the car... it's pretty tough for a phony to get modern cop lights.

From what you have written there was no felony but concern so how is your subject title constitute such a claim?

It is odd for something like this to occur but does not rise to a crime being committed.

When you thought there was a threat you continued to talk with your friend! instead of calling 911? until after you were able to pick him up?

By calling 911 first and letting them know you are behind them and where they are traveling, there is a higher likelihood they will respond quickly.

Do not fall into the Dick Tracy Mode, if you truly feel there is something that needs to investigated it would behoove you to get law enforcement right away instead of getting a buddy as if things did escalate then law enforcement would deal with it.

Just another thought, we're you holding your phone close to your ear while using the "speaker phone". Maybe it was just a "doo-gooder" trying to let you know that you shouldn't have been using your cell phone while driving, not realizing it was on "speaker".

You must not watch Oprah.

According to the OP, there was no violation of law other then if there is one for driving with high beams.

Poo I am not trying to beat up on you here it is we need to find that line between a concerned citizen and law enforcement role in society and not placing yourself in harms way needlessly.

Just curious was you driving your bread truck chasing them? That would have been a real challenge!
