Houston man facing surgeries, uncertain future after engaging gunman

Sad. An ex military man snapped according to family and went on a shooting rampage. He had toured multiple of times.

Garza, an Army veteran from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., opened fire Sunday at tire store in West Houston, according to Fox11 Los Angeles, spraying 212 rounds at innocent bystanders and police. Eugene Linscomb, 56, was killed and six, including one police officer and Wilson, were injured.

I suppose this is a lesson that sometimes it is good to stay away from the fray. Only direct threat should be engaged as far as I know, and help third party if their life is in danger.

what is this fascination with mental health issues you have developed...family says he snapped...again not one iota of collaboration of any mental health disorder.

is there a point you wish to make, if so provide objective evidence instead of innuendo from shock and awe news medium accounts...

Solus. Calm down. I am sure the shooter could have used a million different things or done a million different different things, but the point is that a CCLer engaged this ex military possibly suffering from PSTD. A guy who fires 212 or so rounds. I bet he thought he was back in the theater of war. The CCLer should have recognized that this situation is not something he can tackle with and called 911. We are not the police.
Besides the gun confiscation crowd will use this as evidence to take 2A away from us. So we have to keep the smoke out and see the picture clearly. It also gives them ammo that civilians carrying guns are unable to stop criminals. I heard this argument on TV last night.

By the way how did Chris Kyle die??

Well, the 2A is just a law that can be changed. Our natural rights though are not subject to regulation.,,regardless of what any law or gov't official says IMO.

throwing the BS flag at your continued & flagrant disregard of facts and insisting on arbitrarily labeling individual(s) with a mental impairment without a shred of diagnostic evidence.

while you know the answer, allow me to enlighten other members about what you are referring to, quote: Routh had been in and out of mental hospitals for at least two years, and had been diagnosed with schizophrenia. unquote https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Kyle

Law Abider, do you notice the key words in that sentence...in/out of mental hospitals and the really biggie ~ DIAGNOSED...

When we have a situation as in the one being presently discussed and we do not know with any valid authority what the mental state or history of such is, then we are much better advised to say. "It would seem" or "others have alleged" rather than making a firm, unequivocal statement.

Said more simply, hedge your bet until solid fact/information is available. No rush to judgement.

Agree. That's why I wrote 'possibly' since i did not know and the only info I had was that his family said that he snapped. Now many people snap and do bad things if they are not in control of their mental faculties esp anger. Now it was said that the perp had been on active duty and multiple tours overseas. So I said possibly he suffers from PSTD. However he could have reacted to anything.

We may, and I hope not, find out that he either suffers from PTSD or something else triggered him. Hypothesizing is not BS. I am hypothesizing. Within the realm of possibility. Conjecture is BS because the possibility of conjecture is so mathematically remote that it could never happen.

so, being overseas in the military and having a fit of anger leads you to believe someone POSSIBLY suffers from PTSD issues.

well here ya go so you can play at accomplishing diagnoses on your own...
quote: PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have seen or lived through a shocking, scary, or dangerous event. (added: traffic accident, DV incident, rape, etc.) Not every traumatized person develops ongoing (chronic) or even short-term (acute) PTSD. To be diagnosed with PTSD, an adult must have all of the following for at least 1 month:
At least one re-experiencing symptom
At least one avoidance symptom
At least two arousal and reactivity symptoms
At least two cognition and mood symptoms
unquote http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/topics/post-traumatic-stress-disorder-ptsd/index.shtml

so Law Abider, ALL six symptoms must be exhibited for at least a month to be diagnosed with this disorder. an individual has five...no diagnosis.

now, your uninformed continued rants are what propagates the mental health stigma in this country and why individuals fail to seek treatment.

now please quit spreading your BS mental health diagnosis to those whom you feel POSSIBLY meet your incorrect criteria of being in/released from serving in the military and POSSIBLY exhibit what you have read is an out of norm reaction.

Maybe he has not been diagnosed yet or he has and no one is saying anything about it. PTSD statistics are a moving target that is fuzzy: As of September 2014, there are about 2.7 million American veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. According to RAND, at least 20% of Iraq and Afghanistan veterans have PTSD and/or Depression. (Military counselors I have interviewed state that, in their opinion, the percentage of veterans with PTSD is much higher; the number climbs higher when combined with TBI.)http://www.veteransandptsd.com/PTSD-statistics.html.

However the point of the post is that a CCLer should choose his engagements carefully or he will end up getting wounded in this case and death in another case by an army person. These people are trained to use their weapon well. SOLUS I don't understand your anger, unless I have pushed some button.

you, pushed my buttons, your naivety is pitiful at best.

now you back pedal by stating...maybe he hasn't be diagnosed YET? law abider quote: this ex military possibly suffering from PSTD. unquote. now you are saying well, maybe they haven't be diagnosis yet. Well if they have not been diagnosis, do not attach the stigma, even with the term "possibly suffering".

Law Abider, how would you like someone to state you personally are 'possibly' suffering from a mental health disorder, such as personality disorder ~ bi polar for example, as proof they cite symptoms which could meet DSM V criteria they say you meet ? do you truly wish to have to dispute those vague symptoms, especially if they could affect your capability to say get assistance, get financial aid, or pass a background check?

BTW, the bloody cite you are waving about in your last post is using data over 10 years old.

Please read quote. You are splitting hairs. Now if you were going to use the possibly quote on me, first you would have to read something in the paper about me and a quote from my family like ' he snapped'.

UPdate On Garza

Here is an update:
Garza, a decorated Army sergeant who served two tours in Afghanistan, suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and was going through "a mental health crisis," according to media reports. Garza fired 212 rounds in a middle-class west Houston neighborhood, injuring two law enforcement officers and setting a gas station on fire, before being killed by a SWAT team member.

http://www.thenewcivilrightsmovemen...as_trump_supporter_railed_against_homosexuals

"It just appears to be someone who was in mental health crisis at this time," McGalin said. He added that at the scene, Garza had put "random writings" on the wall, but said they did not give police an indication of what motivated the shootings.
