After reading Dreamer's thread its obvious that most of the things he said are probably true. Modding on this site has gotten to the point where you dont even need to break the rules to be modded, you just have to say something that someone doesnt like. BIG difference.

Ive seen multiple threads, and reported multiple people where racist things were said and hate was obviously being spread, yet nothing is done about it even after multiple reports. Even after reporting things on here I recieve personal responses from the mods saying "Oh those reports? Sorry we lost them, go ahead and go back through every thread and every post and re-report them, we will take care of it :)".

And those are for posts being reported for racial and homophobic comments. But if you just happen to say something along the lines of "Yeah im not a big fan of cops" you will see your post almost immediately modded with a message like

"We do not tolerate hate messages on our forum!" ...... You have got to be kidding me. There is obviously a really strong bias with the mods on this forum.... they mod whats important to them at the time. When it gets to the point where mods are trying to "get back" at people by issuing out a response to a poster and then closing the thread so they can get the last word in, then why even bother commenting and involving ourselves in the discussion? Why do it if your honest opinion will just get filtered and modified by someone who doesnt like what they see?

And any who would rather not even think about the issue and instead regurgitate up some "if you dont like it then leave" response then i have this to say: If you like the forum then why wouldnt you want to see it become an even fairer and more balanced place to be? How can anyone agree with the practice of just removing opinions and ideas from view just because you dont agree with them?

Freedom of choice, if you don't like how you are treated on OCDO do not visit this site. Your 1A right stops at the OCDO "property line".

The other thread that started out like this did not last long....hint, hint....:banghead:

You are absolutely right, OCforME. Freedom of choice. However, that freedom of choice necessarily includes the right to try to influence the moderators in the direction of fair and thoughtful moderating.

I too have seen moderating that didn't seem in agreement with the rules. I'm not counting lack of moderating--that can just be a case of no mods on duty, in a sense. But, I have seen moderating that didn't align well with the forum rules.

This is also known as "arbitrary" moderating. And, that is a little dangerous because posters don't know where the boundaries really are. And, then become disappointed when the rules as understood by the poster are violated by the moderator. It just leads to dissension and disappointment.

Except for folks like me, of course. The very epitome of patience, tolerance, and love for my fellow man. :D

Wow, a thread gets locked down for the same language and you take it upon yourself to reopen yet another one. :uhoh:

A few things here:

1) The posts that have been moderated away are still visible to forum moderators and administrators. Before making a statement about "heavy handed moderation", one of the postings actually specifically stated they would violate Rule #7 by repeatedly posting the statement to all forums.

2) All moderation and edits are subject to monitoring and overturning by John (Administrator). There have been repeated assertions and assumptions by the persons complaining that I am somehow "taking advantage of Admin's absence" to "wreak havoc" on the forum. John is personally notified not only by the system of my moderation activity, but actual contact via phone is made soon after said moderation activity is done. The "John is freaking great when he's around, it's just Gray screws things up while he's 'away and he hides it from John" meme is rather old, tiresome, and makes John look like an absentee administrator. He isn't. The "I have evidence that he did this" thing is also old. As stated, all edits by moderation staff is logged and monitored.

3) OC for Me is right. OCDO is not the government and therefor nothing is enforcible via the first amendment. John has the power to appoint moderators to police the forum (and to revoke at any time), and has the authority to discipline members for breaking the rules, which he has by making someone "quiet for a while" or blocking their account. All this has happened before, and will happen again. Some people can't let go of arguing with others, and take it too personally. You break the rules with a post, the post can be edited or deleted by a moderator.

4) Public rebukes also do not work. You know John's username, and you have a perfectly functional private messaging system here. Open letters tend to get summarily ignored for good reason, due to the underlying agendas involved. If you're so heavily invested that you're posting about things being unfair in a privately-run internet forum, you should take a break and not take the internet so seriously.
