OC on the Norfolk TIDE?

I decided to check out the new train to nowhere today. It's been busy with all the people checking it out, and the HRT has staff and volunteers in abundance. I saw no uniformed security, but several men looked very much like plain clothes cops. The shoes, they always wear cop shoes... I got on about 1150, rode from Newtown Rd stop and and back, about an hour and 20 minutes total. The train stopped at the maintenance sheds to transfer engineer/drivers, but it seemed fairly ordinary. I was observed by quite a few of the HRT staff, but not a word about the gun. Riders in front of and behind me were admonished that no food or drinks were allowed, but I was not approached or spoken to by anyone other than to ask me if I'd like a schedule. The train may or may not be worth the money, but it was a pleasant ride, and so far, no issues with carry. Any other OC/CC riders yet?

Finally, peace and quiet, polls open in less than 12 hours...phone calls have finally slacked off! Anyhow, for those of us north of the Coleman Bridge...we have four good fellows running to replace Harvey Morgan...but taken straight from his website...#1 issue...like t33j says, you have to look at the total package....

Catesby on the Issues Second Amendment Rights
Firsthand experience has shown me that criminals do prey on the unarmed. As a Washington DC store owner, legally prevented from protecting my business with a firearm, I was robbed twenty-one times in eight years. As your delegate, I will staunchly defend your right to keep and bear arms, without restrictions because it is your right to protect your family, home and business from criminals.

Last night went to Taco Bell. After walking out, another patron came up and asked me about carry in VA. He seemed to think one needed a CCW to carry openly as I was. Explained that OC is fully legal and requires no permit. Like so many others, he seemed amazed! We talked for a bout 15 minutes about various related things. His elderly father had lost his wife a few years ago and was "starting to come out of it" by going to LGC and getting his CCW. Has now been buying all kinds of related gear, etc. We all know about that. The son says he has been helping his dad with all this and I gave one of my cards to him, describing OC and OCDO. The father has his own laptop and probably will be looking this place over. I told the son to bring his dad to one of our OC Dining Out experiences! We can certainly help an elderly gent figure out how to enjoy shooting and OC even more by spending lots of dough on things we recommend, right?!

Went to Lab Corp. and ran into this 0825111041_bright.jpg so I turned around and went home. I called my doctor's office to ask where else I could get blood drawn and then called Quest Diagnostic to inquire if they had policies prohibiting firearms. (Didn't feel like driving out to see another gun buster sign on the door) The lady I spoke to asked if I was a police officer and when I told her I wasn't she asked, "Why would you want to bring a firearm in here if you aren't a police officer?" I was getting an mildly anti vibe... It turns out she didn't know if there were a policy or not and told me to come over anyway.

I showed up and she asked about my gun so we talked about it for the 5 or 10 minutes I was there. She says she deals with a lot of crazy people and I told her a woman working alone with crazy people seemed like a prime candidate to be carrying a gun. She wasn't very receptive to that. I asked her what she would do if one of her crazy patients started acting crazy and asked her if she knew it would take the cops about 5 minutes to show after she told me she'd have them come. She thought about that one for a bit. I brought up the fact that anti-gun policies disarm only those not intent on doing harm and she very much agreed. She seemed a little nervous when I first showed up, but was at ease when I left.

I'll write a letter to both companies.

It cost me $1 in gas, and maybe an extra 45 minutes. It was worth it.

Here's the Lab Corp. firearm policy:
Carrying of concealed weapon(s) is never permitted on LabCorpproperty or while on assignment performing work for LabCorp.
Service Providers for LabCorp may not keep, store or have a
weapon in his/her personal vehicle while the vehicle is parked in
a Company-provided parking lot.
Weapons include, but are not limited to, all firearms, rifles, guns,
knives (excluding pocket knives) explosives and any other
instrument capable of inflicting bodily harm on a person.
I'm not sure if it's meant to apply only to employees or not.

OC-ed to ACT Tumbling, Hair on Fire, Rite Aid, Food Lion, Exxon, Chili's.

People are lining up to fill up their cars and being rude about jumping in front of others. The huricane hasn't even hit yet and I definitely feel safer armed. I wonder if we lose power for a week or three what kind of mood people will be in?

45acp, we were without power here for about 5 days after Isabel. There was no looting or anarchy, but then again, there were so damn many trees down across the roads that criminals and rabblerousers had little opportunity to get from place to place in any modern fashion. We all got along great with one another in my neighborhood, and we even got to know some folks who had lived here for years but had never interacted with us. We all had the shared work of getting things cleared up and running again. Most of us had loads of frozen meat that would have gone bad, so there were large barbeques going on every evening. I forget which one was my barbeque gun those days. I was actually a little surprised to find out how many of my quiet little neighbors are armed after all. I'm just the one with the OC reputation, that's all. I would have felt sorry for any looter/robber who got in here. His luck would have run out real quick.

t33j, I had no idea that Lab Corp had such egregious policies, even for its own employees. I have sent most of my patients to them, because they are the biggest and seem to be everywhere, but if you find one with a more sensible policy, I'll shift all my business in a heartbeat, and let LC know why. I'll even tell them they did a lousy job spacing the lines in their stupid sign!

Well I didn't really have trouble at Quest Diagnostics. I don't think they have a policy, and there's nothing posted but I'll be mailing a letter to corporate tomorrow. If my assumption is wrong I expect they'd correct me. If that's the case I'll let you know. Otherwise Quest looks like the place to go.

T33j,
Its understandable to want a substantive answer from Quest, but be aware that simply asking about such a thing may make some "security officer/legal expert" type dream up a policy on the spot...and we know what that would say. I'm satisfied that there is no sign, as opposed to our friends at LC. Give it your best shot t33j, but don't be surprised if Quest turns anti on the spot. In that case, man, with your money and chutzpah, and my brains and experience, we can set up our own stinkin' lab service. I'd say start with some subtle, easy-going name like "Carry Any Damn Way You'd Like To Lab Service, Inc." and get TJEEPER to provide door security. I like his pin stripe suit. Raffling off an AK-47 seems to be a popular way to drum up business these days. What do you think, Teej.
