I just got an alert from GRNC, it looks like they are going against an open carry ban in Andrew, NC. Well, it could be.about all carry. It does seem strange for GRNC to care about OC. But let's give them the benefit of doubt

What is Andrew trying to do? What do they mean " western Chaple hill". I thought we could carry in Chapel Hill. What did they mean we.have already lost Ashvile?

If GRNC is promoting OC, we should.support it and encourage it

Lost Asheville?? Does that mean no OC in or around Asheville? Was heading that way this weekend via the Blueridge Parkway on the motorcycle, planned on OC the whole trip.

I've never gotten the impression that GRNC is against OC. Perhaps more CC centric because that is where they think they can win, but whatever...

You might want to re-read the alert. It said 'a new leftist "Chapel Hill of western North Carolina"' - nothing about western Chapel Hill.

In actual fact, there is no ban on OC in Chapel Hill. There is an ordinance in the city of Durham, however, against display of handguns - which is a ban on OC on "city property".

I'm not sure about Asheville in terms of gun laws but I do know that it is a liberal haven now.

I don't think everyone on this board receives the GRNC alerts, so here it is...

Andrews Aldermen Lurch Leftward...

Yesterday at a work session, the Board of Aldermen in Andrews, NC put in motion their scheme to restrict lawful carry of firearms on town properties. This could create, for the first time in town history an ordinance that bans lawful carry of firearms including, potentially, a blanket ban on open carry in the town. Why, one might ask? Is it because of threats or violence on Town property? No record of such criminal activities can be found. Is it because Cherokee county, home to the Town of Andrews bans such lawful activity? (They do not.) No, more likely, it’s just because they can!

Apparently, the Mayor and Aldermen in Andrews want to destroy the mountain heritage of gun ownership in order to create a new leftist “Chapel Hill of western North Carolina.” We’ve already lost Asheville to the leftists. Will you let them have Andrews too?

Grass Roots North Carolina has put the Board of Aldermen on notice that we will fight their effort. We’ve also put them on notice that we will encourage you to attend their meetings to advocate against disarming lawful citizens.

IMMEDIATE ACTION REQUIRED!

Attend the meeting where the proposed "Firearms Ban" will be discussed on Tuesday August 11 at 5:30 PM. The address of the town hall is 1101 Main St, Andrews, NC, 28901.
Call, write and email the mayor, the aldermen and the city manager and let them know exactly how you feel about this proposed ordinance.

DELIVER THIS MESSAGE

Suggested Subject: "No Gun Ban for Andrews!"

Dear Mayor Curtis, Aldermen and City Manager:

I am aware that you propose banning the lawful carry of firearms on town properties. I understand no such ordinance existed in the past, and in fact Cherokee County itself repealed such restrictions on county properties two years ago. Since that time, no incidents involving the misuse of firearms possessed by lawful citizens have occurred.

Following the prudent example of Cherokee County Commissioners will keep Andrews safer, reduce confusion, and demonstrate the Town Council’s respect for law-abiding voters. The criminal element and the mentally ill do not honor gun control ordinances, and so it is only the peaceful, law-abiding citizens who suffer, often greatly, when gun control is forced upon them.

I ask that you resist the temptation to exert control over law-abiding gun owners just because it’s possible to do so. Vote against this proposed ordinance to ban the lawful carry of firearms on Town properties.

I will be following the actions of the Andrews, NC Town Council closely through alerts issued by Grass Roots North Carolina.

Respectfully,

I thought in the recent past, Asheville did have a ban on OC and GRNC fought it and got the ban removed. I could be wrong, but I believe it to be so. No I never believed GRNC was against OC.

I would like to see the cites on that, considering that PV called us insane drunk bikers, on this very forum.

Open carry is not banned in Asheville.
It is a city "lost to liberals", but that has nothing to do with open carry. I carry openly fairly often downtown and have not had a negative LE encounter there to date.

Just be aware of the buildings that post. Some are more "conspicuous" than others.

Good to know. I figured we would probably stop and stay at a Hotel Saturday night somewhere around Asheville, guess I'll have to check for signs or just pack it up out of sight if we stay somewhere.
