Weekend of June 16/17th, i oc'd my Glock 17 while doing a varmint hunting trip. I oc'd in Fort Bridger, Laramie, and Rock springs during my trip. Never got a second look, hassled, etc. Stopped in several rest stops on the highway, gas stations, and a few resturants. I'll definitly OC up there again. Only wish my home state ( CO ) was as accepting socially speaking of OC.

I thought CO was generally OK with open carry. Judging from the posts by Standing Wolf, Denver and Boulder are the only really anti parts of the state. (too many PRCA expatriots) What experiences have you had in CO?

As far as I know, you should never have problems here. We're pretty libertarian. A common bumper sticker here: Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms? Where's the party?

i've been too chicken to oc here in Colorado yet. I live in Fort Collins, and I've heard rumors that if someone calls the cops about you, you'll get hassled and possibly get a BS disturbing the peace charge. Since i hold a valid CO permit, I want to check with official sources before I risk it here.

Two things:

First: Godbless WY! The first time I ever OCed was in Worland. There was a pack of us, all OCing and we walk into this little family diner, all smiles and "g'day maam's" and there was not one word said to us. Great service and everyone was polite.

Second (for The-Fly): Check out http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum//index.php?topic=1853.0, the guy who opened the thread (a good guy, met him not too long ago in worland) lives in CO and OC's everywhere he goes. He has gotten hassled and was brought up on a CC charge (they didn't like the gun, so they tried to nail him on the folder in his pocket). He successfully defended himself against the DA AND filed motions until they returned his knife to him, all this and he is under 24. Like I said, great guy.

I own a few acres of ranch land near Rock River (SE WY, about 70 miles NW of Laramie) where I hope to retire one day. I OC most of the time whenever I'm there. I have OC'ed in Laramie at Wal-Mart, Hardees, etc. as well as the rural areas between there and my land. God bless WY!

There is a price to pay for the freedoms we enjoy. I've OC'd a lot in the Boise area and have been hassled over the issue, as well as some friends. More often than not it's an uneventful day. Only a couple hasslings out of hundreds of OCs. Ultimatley you get a lecture, and you're released... sometimes 45 minutes later. I like the cliche phrase, "Use it or loose it."

:cuss:45 minutes? Sounds like an unreasonable detainment. You might talk to someone well versed on the subject, because it seems like I've heard you can sue for five figures for this kind of violation of your civil rights.

Do you have to be 21 to open carry in all states that allow OC? I ask because I am turning 21 in less than a month and I am interested in carrying. Frankly, I do not want to get a permit. I refuse to give in like a little sheep. Until then though, can I carry openly being only 20? I think I know the answer but I was wondering what y'all think.

As long as you can legally possess the handgun at 18 then I don't see why you couldn't openly carry it then too.

Uncle,

Just been looking through some of the old posts, and the above caught my eye!

I thought, "Why on earth is the Uncle bashing the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association?"I have meta fewof these guys, all staunch gun owners and very pro 2nd Amendment.

Eventually, the penny dropped!

Peoples Republicof California!

I guess I am getting stupid in my old age, double nickel this year, but I LMAO once I realised my mistake!

If you'd ever lived in California, you wouldn't have considered any other meaning to this. Sigh...

Thank God for Wyoming!! ML

Point well taken,Madam! I guess I am just too much of a rodeo fan! Lord save us all from themoonbats, liberals and freaks that would appear to have over-run this State!I like my New Kentucky Home just fine, but it would appear that Newcastle,WY, also has its attractions!;)

Hello all.
I have lived in Colorado and Wyoming.
I can give my experience with OC and compare the two states.

OC in Colorado is a little tricky. Most LEO's know that its legal, some do not know about OC at all.

I only had one bad experience with OC and that was in the town of Greeley.
I was in a Safeway Market and one of the local cops pulled me to the side and asked if I were a LEO. I said no and told him about OC laws. He seemed like he was about to cuff me until I asked him to call an Officer I knew and ask him personally about it.

He told me If I knew that LEO and the LEO friend of mine knew it was legal, he would take my word for it.

I wouldn't dare OC in Denver or Boulder though. Even Ft. Collins I got some bad looks and questions.

In WY I never had a problem.
Although in Laramie you sometimes get some out of town students from states who dont know about OC and they seem to want to call the police.

Just remember, you are legal when you OC in CO and WY. Always ALWAYS be polite no matter how nasty someone is about your OC, look for "No Guns Allowed" Signs and it doesn't help to look clean cut and professional looking.

and it doesn't help to look clean cut and professional looking.

Ah, I think you meant to say that it doesn't HURT to look clean cut... :)

It sure doesn't, even in Wyoming. Of course, you can just imagine what some people think when they see an older lady carrying! I've certainly had some strange looks and comments.

My favorite was from a lady stock clerk in the Spearfish, SD WalMart who asked me if this was a "real gun." When I answered affirmative and gave her my card, she said she did own guns and went shooting, but had never considered carrying one! I invited her to check into the Second Amendment Sisters and to think about it - how it might be important to our future as free men and women. She agreed to consider it.

This kind of encounter is the most important result of my decision to open carry. There are thousands, or millions, of people who are NOT our enemies - yet... They simply have not been exposed to the truth or caused to think things through. They've been fed with the government and media nonsense all their lives and have no basis for an informed decision on much of anything.

Let's do what we can to change that... one person at a time. :) MamaLiberty

I'm proud to say that I had my first open carry experience yesterday in Riverton, Wy and again today in Lander, Wy. My family has a vacation home in Lander, and this is actually the first time I've been able to come out here (had it less than six months). I'm from Birmingham AL, where open carry will get you hassled or arrested, and it was great open carrying and knowing it's totally legal here in Wy. I open carried a Para Warthog yesterday, and today I have a Glock 20 with a backup magazine. The most I've gotten were about three long stares, but nothing more. I make sure to be extra nice and friendly, because I want to represent a positive image of open carry.
