took my pistol permit class for CT..waiting to get my permit back and have been looking at some pistols.

What has stood out to me is the sig p290 and the glock 26 gen 4.

Let me know what you think about these and offer up some others if you wish!

I plan on conceal carrying often and going to the range often.

others that were on my list were
Ruger LC9s
Sig P250
S&W Shield
Glock 42

Just to be clear, you do know this is an open carry forum? Most of the users want to promote open carry, not concealed carry....

That said, it doesn't really matter what you choose. Just be sure to choose a pistol you can shoot well and will practice with. The brand is not really as important. If possible, find a place you can test fire all the models you are most interested in. You might find you shoot some better than others. And you might find you don't like some at all.

Welcome to OCDO. As has already been mentioned this site is dedicated to thje lawful open carry of holstered handguns. There are literally scads of sites for folks who want to discuss concealed carry.

On your journeys about Connecticut beware of a particular OCDO poster who also lives there. We're just not sure about him - he's always entertaining (so are clowns, who are just about as scary) and occassionally drops some accurate and useable information.

stay safe.

Perhaps the OP is willing to build his own pistol ? 1911's are easy to make and plenty of plans are out there for other designs.

Cheaper, funner, and the state has no business knowing what gun(s) you own.

Welcome to the forum !

Okay - Glock 26-27, you need to consider grip extensions for the standard 10-9 round mags, unless you have tiny hands. They help you get a full grip, which will aid you in controlling the pistol, This will help increase your accuracy most likely, something anyone near you will appreciate should you have to use it. ETA...that is everyone except the bad guys ... ;)

One thing to think about, and why you ought to find someone local who has one of each you're interested to actually try shooting (some ranges will rent you a trial piece) and see how they feel. People seem to either love Glocks or hate them, practically a religious thing, because the barrel is mounted lower than most pistols. The idea is to transfer more of the recoil into the webbing of your hand rather than flip-up, in order to give a more accurate second-and-subsequent shot. I hate 'em myself. My favorites in the pistol category are the Kahr K-9 elite and SigSauer 229 DAK. But the tried and true best advice is that the right gun for you is the one you feel comfortable shooting.
