Ok, so let me get this straight.... we just had a school shooting and we had kids hiding in fear and in fear for their lifes with someone that shot at the school and one person injured and all that they we're able to do was hide and hope for law enforcement to show up........This is unacceptable, why wasnt are teachers armed, janitors armed, and ther school employees armed and able to protect our children.

This time it was only shots fired at the school.... but next time the shooter might actually go into the school and start killing students and staff while people hide and call for police

Kentucky has a school program called the "POST Program" which allows school personal to be trained and once trained to carry firearms on them in defense of themselves and of the students, when will JCPS wake up and approve this program and stop putting the students at risk?

Is your Mom, Your Dad, Grand Parent, Sister, Daughter, friends or neighbor who either go to the school as students or go there to work, are their lifes not important enough to be able to protect themselves or should we just pray that the'll make it out alive and unharmed?

I say no, I want school staff armed in case a situation
like today ever happens again..... because next time, it could be worse.

I agree as well. People on social media yesterday were making the situation out to be another Columbine, Sandy Hook, and Virginia Tech. While that really annoyed me, I kept thinking to myself, "This is why schools need armed faculty/staff. Even if it's 'just in case.'"

I always thought and I still today believe it to be true that all it would take is ONE staff member of the school to be armed and ready to go... Should it be the janitor Ted just mopping up floors who is really trained and ready to protect our kids... or Lucy the lunch lady serving food ready and willing to take charge of the situation...

Its common sense. A 911 call takes time. When an armed madman(woman) is having a parade with our kids we dont have TIME to wait....

I'll bet if "janitor John" was discreetly cc'ing and took out an active shooter maybe 3 bodies into a mass casualty event at a school, things would start to change.

I could not agree more. Even if school administrators are leery to implement an armed staff member, schools still should utilize active shooter scenarios. In my opinion, these scenarios are good in theory, but when SHTF per se and the sympathetic nervous system's fight or flight instinct takes over (and when you are dealing with children or even teenagers, flight is typically the normal response), the scenario is not practical. If the scenario is deemed impractical, it would seem that the next logical solution would be to implement the armed staff. In my opinion (and in a perfect world) the following should happen:

1. Schools implement active shooter scenarios with students and faculty until the routine is 2nd nature (like a fire drill however, most students are likely to find it boring, repetitive, and pointless)

2. LEOs with advanced training (ie. SWAT) or military personnel coordinate with the school board/district or whatever to have an active shooter scenario actually take place. In this scenario, the only person on site that is made aware of this is the principal. Obviously any 911 calls regarding this would need to be handled accordingly. During the simulation, the "shooter(s)" would utilize "simunition" or blanks for the realistic sound which acts as a catalyst for the triggering of "fight or flight." This essentially determines the success or failure of the simulation.

3. If the simulation were to be successful, an argument could be made that no armed staff is necessary. However, if the natural panic of humans set in and the the scenario/practice/training is deemed a failure, a strong argument would be made for armed staff.

I realize this scenario would not be viable in our world because of the litigiousness of our society. We'd have people screaming PTSD, demanding the removal of the officials who approved it, etc. Hence why I said "in a perfect world." Wishful thinking is always a great thing.

My name is Ted and I approve this message.

Actually I think you're on to something here. Arming and training the janitors could be a step in the right direction, since the perps are usually after the students, teachers and other staff . . . .
