In a case like this, the kneejerkers will automatically assume the cops overreacted. I am reminded of a case I took from a distraught woman. She was reporting that her husband was extremely drunk and angry over a number of things and was threatening to go to his workplace and kill somebody. He had taken his shotgun and a bunch of ammo and headed out the door. She called 911 and I obviously had dispatch notify the agency in the jurisdiction where he worked to keep an eye out for him and that he had said he was going to head to his workplace and shoot somebody. A cop intercepted him walking towards his workplace, ordered him to drop the gun, he raised it up and boom - it was all over. But if you didn't know the backstory and just read the media article, you would just see the cops shot a guy carrying a shotgun openly. Obviously, there was a lot more to the story and the guy was suicide by cop waiting to happen. Pretty sad. I had to testify at the death inquest jury (in my county, all police shootings get an inquest jury. Only a small %age of civilian shootings do , but in the interest of "open govt" policy is that all police shootings get an inquest jury to ask and answer basic questions surrounding the shooting and this helps prosecutors make an informed decision on whether charges are warranted.

Really, so suicide by cop huh?

Not cool.

In one sense, yea. In that, by raising the shotgun, he had to know the cop (who had the drop on him) would fire.

Otoh, his shotgun was loaded and in a true suicide by cop scenario they never are, since a true suicide by cop has no intent to harm anybody else and this guy clearly had murderous intent.

But he was dead the second he started to raise the shotgun at the officer.

Wow, way to take his comment and twist it by selective editing. You do realize he was talking about the second scenario in his post, not the scenario in the OP, right?

I agree. It appears is will be deemed justifiable.

If police are the only witnesses talking, and their reporting a gun pointed at them, and their department is forwarding the report, I got $5 that says its already been deemed justified.

WOW ... the cop in the initial press conference on site said that they had witnesses ... sounds like a record request is appropriate.

Any updates on this case? I have been hearing different stuff on social media, but I cannot find a news reports to confirm the information I am being told.
