Discrete?

some of our states write their CCW and OC laws in arcane legaleese. It means something somewhere but ive never run across it. I have however had everyone from Walmart to Starbucks to my landlord/property Condo commandos pitch a fit- Again! some of our states are WAYYY BEHIND in their gun laws. Some still allow public record access of CCW holders info- so beware. In Iowa its only since recent legislation that your private CCW info required the snooper to get a court order. I carry at ALL times open or concealed, if the powers that be dont lke it? and the state says its legal? lets go to court. Though we need more Stand your ground legislation( here in iowa) and this ' duty to retreat' nonsense? If you belong to a 'gun rights orginization' INSIST they get your state laws in line with states like Florida- and please get REAL gun laws first and this stupid 'suppressor/silencer' legislation needs to go in the trash- we dont need ' tacticool' garbage-we need law with teeth to protect us against prosecution by zealous LEO and politicos

With all due respect Mr. Redsox, you might want to rant less. Roll up your sleeves and show us what you can do. Your first 5 posts have generally been attacking/negative and as such add nothing to improving conditions.

There are many good people here who have been working diligently to improve the RKBA laws through the legislative process and the courts. This is how we make progress - in fact it is a Forum Rule - see #15.

IMO there have been great strides, much forward progress, in regaining our RKBA and in particular OC. I see the pendulum as swinging our way now.

BTW - While there are many working hard at improving things, Florida is not my ideal model yet for good gun laws, especially regarding OC.

returning to initial thread now....

I guess I was not being discreet yesterday.
I was in a local grocery store in mid day. I headed into the salad area and rolled my cart up next to a fortyish young man. He turned and a look of great surprise covered his face. "Damm that's a big gun", said he. (Ruger P85) Then he told me he was concealing a .380 and pulled up his shirt to display it. Why do Concealers do that? I agreed that it was a big slab of metal, but it was a good deterrent. We did the usual OC conversation and parted ways. I guess I just was not discreet.

I have had some that pulled the gun out to show me. I don't know what it is about CC permits that turns people into idiots.

WW, maybe they want to see if they're using their "element of surprise" correctly by watching your reaction when they decide to be stupid with their carry piece?

Just spitballing.

Before they clear leather/kydex I tell them I don't need to see it, I will take their word for it. I try to be polite, and not indicate I think they are idiots, but it sure tears down the claim that trained CCers are more safe. It has only happened to me twice, the rest just pull up their cover garments, but even that is unacceptable. Do that with a LEO and it is a good way to get shot.

I don't what it is that causes some folks to be so hostile to concealed or discrete carry or to obtaining a permit to comply with local and federal laws (rather than choosing to carry antiques). I expect such juvenile comments from gun haters. But from self-proclaimed RKBA supporters it is most unfortunate. Certainly everyone here is sufficiently well educated and intelligent to understand the difference between anecdotal experiences and actual statistics. There are now several million permit holders in this nation including many of us who choose to OC at least part of the time while carrying.

The link report shows that permit holders are many times less likely than the general population and police officers to be convicted of crimes including crimes involving firearms. Demonstrably, there is NOTHING about obtaining a permit or getting training that causes anyone to become an idiot.

Some folks are simply stupid and have not yet received sufficient training to overcome their stupidity. I suspect there are those who are so stupid or evil that there is no practical amount of training that would get them over their issues. Hence, the need for police, courts, and jails/prisons when someone violates the rights of another.

Like most here, I look forward to a day when my RIGHTS to own and carry firearms are fully respected nationwide without any need whatsoever to obtain permits, pass background checks, or otherwise endure restrictions on that right. But until we get there, holding a widely recognized permit or two provides practical benefits well in excess of choosing to carry an antique cap and ball revolver. In addition to the personal benefits of being able to legally carry a modern firearm into schools and to legally carry discretely when social or other situations indicate advantages or preferences to do so, permits provide significant social benefits including the incremental political wins that have helped half a dozen States move to permit-free / Constitutional carry of firearms. Over the last 30 years, the increasing availability of permits to carry helped prevent nearly countless crimes of violence saving innocent life and limb while we work toward greater political, social, and legal acceptance of permit free carry.

So tone back the disparaging comments about CC permits. --edited by Moderator--

It's not the permit, their an idiot to began with. Like the old saying goes. "Stupid is as Stupid does" they would have pulled it out of the holster to show it to you if they were OCing

Open carry ... or concealed carry is all about how YOU FEEL in given circumstances. That includes the space lying in between the two . Reality is... that you cannot open carry everywhere....can you ....? Nope.

Notorious open carry has it's place...as does concealed carry...and....discreet carry.

How one carries (OC, CC, or noC) is a matter of personal choice insofar as the laws are obeyed. That really is the bottom line.

Minions of the CC Industrial Complex hold themselves up as the responsible practitioner of our RKBA. The CC Industrial Complex has been the greatest impediment to permit-less carry in MO, and other states. The CC Industrial Complex would have OC made unlawful via legislative acts.

If a permit is a infringement, permits must be disparaged at every turn.

Could someone please fix the spelling on the title of this thread?

The spelling used is indicitive of a math equation.

couldn't have done that discreetly w/PM...especially since

discrete means: individually separate and distinct??

discreet means: careful and circumspect in one's speech or actions, especially in order to avoid causing offense or to gain an advantage.

so individually separate conceal carry...

or circumspect conceal carry...

certainly a dichotomy requiring resolution...or does it?

Well it could have been those who carry OC separate from CC. I prefer to do both at the same time.

I would not call it a CC Industrial Complex, close, real close, not a 100%. What the CC zealots forget is they had to exercise a RIGHT of open carry to procure the PRIVILEGE of conceal carry. Unfortunately a progressive court created dichotomy of claiming/ruling that CC is bad, but can be tolerated through a licensing scheme was constitutional. It being just another form of control. The CC zealots loose all relevance if constitutional carry prevails. Zealots do Not like to legislate themselves out of existence.

My background is engineering. When I would meet new people some would want to know what I did for a living. I would say I can't tell you that because you may disapprove, it a very dangerous job. They would always wanted to know out of curiosity. I'd tell them I'm an engineer. Then they wanted to know how that was a dangerous job and why they would disapprove. I would tell them that my job was to build machines that would put as many people on the unemployment lines as possible. They never looked at engineers the same ever again.

Exercising our unalienable rights threatens those who want to control our lives. At some point we will prevail.
