No reason given for the resignation. Not sure how it impacts the DC-v-Heller case. Here are some news posts relating to the resignation. I'd like to think she didn't want to be on the losing end of that case, but that's perhaps wishful thinking on my part.

Sucks that the next guy will be stuck with this case. It's one thing to make a losing proposition your life's work, but it takes a special person to dump it all on another when it really starts to get hard.

Actually, it appears that "the next guy" won't be stuck with the case.

Naw... the next AG has it easy. All he has to do is walk into court and say, "Your honors, the District of Columbia respectfully withdrawls its challenge and humbly concedes that the Second Amendment is an individual right. Effective immediately, we repeal all gun control legislation."

That's his nuclear power training coming through.

At a critique preliminary to an incident report the fickle-finger of fate starts at the shift engineer - who can't pass the responsibilty to the previous shift else he's guilty of a bad turnover. So he points to the next guy, who might quote Mr. Simpson and the finger goes on. If it makes it back to the shift engineer then he is responsible for not properly directing control of his shift.

I chaired a few critiques but never had to write the incident report (the goat writes the report first draft as punishment).
